Guy-friendly Chick Flicks?

Women love torturing men with movies starring Meg Ryan and Julia Roberts and those "very special" episodes of "Dr. Quinn." But can anyone think of any "guy-friendly" chick flicks? Those movies that are definitely a girl movie, but has a lot to offer men too? Give me your suggestions...

Here's my intial list...

"The Bridges of Madison County"...even though its pro-adultery, there's some pretty strong moments of truthfulness in this flick.

"Muriel's Wedding"...maybe I just like this cuz I'd fuck the shit out of Toni Collette

"Four Weddings and a Funeral"...I'm a sucker for Hugh Grant (I just saw my best friend roll her eyes wink )

"When Harry Met Sally..."...it's a ripoff of "Annie Hall" (which is NOT a chick flick) but I really love this film.

OK, add to the list, hosers...

No, no, no...there's always gender crossover when it comes to movies. You know how many chicks I know who like "Scarface," "Predator," and Russ Meyer movies? They're out there...

There ya go - Woody Allen. He has a number of films that successfully straddle the guy-friendly/chick-flick border.

If it's the standard definition of chick flick, then I'm not a fan either. So I dunno.

eh-hem.

Chasing Amy is not your typical chick flick and really is a movie for guys if I ever saw one. I mean come on, he actually gets to have sex with a lesbian. wink

But yes, Jersey Girl counts and I think it's the only Kevin Smith film I haven't seen. razz

If you haven't seen it, how would you know? You're right, though. It's certainly not as funny or memorable (no stand out lines or moments) as Kevin's other movies, but it isn't so bad that you should avoid the rental. It's more a drama more than a comedy.

"Jersey Girl" wasn't bad. It was better than "Mallrats," which I still say is Kevin's worst film. And despite Affleck, it's not really a chick flick. And NO WAY is "Chasing Amy" a chick flick. To me, a chick flick is any movie that inspires women to say "you go, girl" or have a margarita party. The problem is, most of these movies have nothing to offer men. They ring false, trick women into believing bullshit and generally are as empty-headed as all these male-geared action films.

Strictly Ballroom although considered a chick flick, I believe in my humble opinion, to be one of the greatest movies ever made.

I am a woman and I hate so called "chick flicks." I like action etc., but w/ a plot. My favorite show of all time was Oz on HBO. All "chicks" don't like those crappy movies.

Okay, just had to get that off of my chest. Thanks. smile

I guess "Chicken Run" would qualify as a chick flick.

About A Boy.

It's not even a chick-flick. It's a boy's film which doesn't have the regular themes of huge-breasted women, fart jokes, cars, sport etcetera...

If so, that's my favorite chick flick!

My second favorite, which I wouldn't consider a chick flick in the way many of Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullocks movies are, is a very indie movie called "Secrets and Lies". It's a British movie from 1996 that was an indie flick and got great reviews and did well for a movie of that type (it also got a bunch of Oscar nods along with some nods and wins of other big movie awards). It's this fasinating movie that centers around these two working class siblings, mostly the sister, and there are just all these real issues that are being covered up because nobody is honest with each ohter. It is just so real! The same director made another chick flick a year later called "Career Girls", which was pretty good and also successful, I believe. That was definately a chick flick with two college roomates that meet years later. Check out these movies if you want to see some real drama.
