I have an advent calendar, but in a different way I guess.

It's a sewn fabric wreath and you put up one each day with velcro-different things like bells, angels, gingerbread men/women, various Christmas ones.

It's very carefully made (one of a kind), really cool looking and I've had it for years, since I was little.

biggrin sounds like one to me ... a very nice one ... there are many many different forms of them ... ours is more in a pagan like tradition but still ( not the one in above pic ! )

was a tradition in my family all my life ... i just switched it from the santa type my mom loved to a more "nature" type

biggrin

"SANTA" edit

Eat more-maybe they get better as you go.

That or make your own double candy advent deal!

Load up on candy at the store (my personal preference being Reese's Miniature Peanut Butter Cups) and for every advent wreath you open shovel oh...9 peanut butter cups down your throat.

biggrin

Things get better as you go on sometimes.

Or it's like Christmas-the excitement grows till you open them and realize that maybe the nightgown wasn't for you.

Oh, when I was in gradeschool, we had an advent wreath in each classroom. And they would light another candle each week counting up till christmas. I used to get so excited looking at the snow out the window and gazing at the candles, that I could barely pay attention to the teacher.

We have two, the kind with chocolates behind little doors. The chocolate is shaped like the picture behind the door: angels, candles, stockings. We love them! biggrin

I love this time of year in our multi-racial heathen household. We celebrate Christmas, Yule, Kwanzaa and the Solstice. woot!

Come on over! batting eyes We just put up the tree and a bunch of decorations, and I'm working on a new altar that I'm going to build myself instead of using an end table. We have candles burning to various saints, and my daughter is playing her Jackson 5 Christmas album incessantly. Want some rice and beans?

It's a ball, isn't it? And the kids are growing up to respect everyone's traditions naturally, since we have so many different ones at home.

I have a working altar in my bedroom, and I honor ancestors every morning (when I don't sleep through the alarm, that is biggrin ). But I'm working on a seasonal household altar for the living room. I'm thinking of building it right into the wall, but my DIY skills are kinda lacking.... lol
