... I am on phone right now, I will come back to read all this in a sec. Thank you. You should really try and remove the viruses first before reformatting. After you reformat, you will have to reinstall all the software you need on your computer, not to mention run all the windows updates all over again, all the antivirus updates, etc. If you are on dialup that will take ages. I have DSL right now... (that's it) I am going to have someone look at this, someone who understands all this. I sure don't. I will pay the money to get it done right the first time. Sure, that's what I say right now... , in other words, I will probably do more harm than good to this situation. I'm a dork, major one I will tell you now. I shall sleep on a decision. ~Nite. ~Hugs.

That's a good way of doing it...also you may want to see if you can install a virus protection program and run it to get rid of your virus. Hmm install a virus protection program. I wonder if others have had a virus and had to format the drive and wipe it clean only to not install a virus protection program and then format the drive and wipe it clean. The best possible solution... Get a new one

Go here:
http://securityresponse.s....tool.html Instructions are there, on this page, on how to install and run the free tool to remove the virus. It should only take a matter of minutes. It is from the symantec website, so it's safe. So, if the scan you did earlier said that you only have the Vundo Trojan then this will remove it, but it will ONLY remove the Vundo Trojan and nothing else, if your computer happens to be infected with more than one. EDIT: By the way, usually you have to turn off "system restore" prior to running any virus software. To do this, after you download the tool, DO NOT RUN IT YET, first shut down your system restore. To do this right click on "My Computer" file. Select "Properties", click on "system restore" and disable it. THEN run the software and remove the virus. You'll then want to enable system restore after the virus is removed. Don't forget to enable it when you are done. Another good thing to install, again, it is free, is the CWShredder. A lot of times a trojan called bootconf, also known as Cool Web Search (among other names it likes to take on), which is spyware as well, will infect your computer and cause text to type slowly, as well as other pesky things. Most spyware will remove it, but not completely. The CWShredder will remove it entirely, until you go to a site that re-infects anyway. You can find it here and it downloads and runs within seconds. http://www.intermute.com/...nload.html . [Edited 11/25/04 6:25am] [Edited 11/25/04 6:53am]
