Does any1 have the "DVD Ripper"

Its this program "Replicate DVD Movies without a DVD recorder".

I bought it for 10.95 @ Office Depot..

"Easily convert a DVD toa compressed VCD for more versatility with your PC CD or DVD player. Supports foreign language and subtitled DVD's."

"All you need is a DVD player and a CD-R drive. Simply backup yourDVD's to Video CDs with our handy utility. Then take your copies and you can replay them on your laptop, another computer and on a standard DVD player anywhere."

It's probably a combo of a few programs that make DVD compatable CD-R's. Or in other words taking your MPG's and whatnot and converting them to DVD-ish format and then burning it in a proper format onto CD-R.

You know anything less than the real thing (which is STILL a pain in the ass if you ask me) is gonna be a lot of trouble. Just my 2 cents

Quite possibly... however, Video CD (a format that's been around a long time... I bought a computer in January 1996 that included a Video CD) isn't anywhere near DVD quality. Still, it seems to me that most DVD players can handle Video CD's, and IMHO they're "watchable."

Oh right, I forgot about Macrovision. doh! I believe there are devices available that will remove Macrovision copy protection, though.

I don't think the Video CD format ever really caught on. However, the discs are no different from other CD's, so you should be able to make a Video CD from any CD-R. "Video CD" simply refers to a method of encoding video data on a CD.

Snap

As far as I know, you can only get 20 minutes of good quality video on a Video CD, which means if you want to fit a whole 2-hour movie on a CD, it's gonna cost you BIG time in quality.
