Damn that was pretty cool. I haven't seen the movie but I checked out the site and it reminds me a lot of www.feardotcom.com or whatever based of the movie. It's a very interactive site. I like it.

I really hated that movie. I was sooooo dissapointed. Didn't even find it slightly scary. What it didn't rip off from The Ring took from The Amytiville Horror. I know it was a remake of a Japanese film, just like The Ring was, but dayum. Did it have to be so derivitive?

Oh, and Buffy shoulda been able to kick those ghost's asses! She took on The First Evil! She took on Glory! What's a few pesky ghosts? wink

Must be! Just had a hard time buying her as this little wimp who was scared of ghosts! After seven years of seeing her kick demon butt, I just couldn't see her that way.

hmm. well i have to disagree with you. Female ghosts in Japan are always depicted as having long straight black hair and are quite commonplace in their mythology and movies, so inevitably 'The Ring' comparisons seem to come from folks unaware of this. I just don't see the Amytiville comparison other than it's a haunted house! confuse

i must say i watched the original Ju-On today and think they did a decent job with the remake, the shocks and jumpy moments were great and what i enjoyed about it was the atmosphere, music and build up to each set-piece and the fact they drew them out a little longer than American horrors (e.g. the surveillance tape scene with the eyes) American 'horror' hits you over the head with special effects and OTT gore, i don't think you're Average American horror is in the same ballpark. The fact the spirits can get to you in traditional safe places (your bed, daylight) made it all the better. The end was a bit of a cop-out though. SMG should have bought it at finale.

I was happy that SMG was able to shed her Buffy character in this. Looks like she finally has a proper movie career now.

I'll probably enjoy the directors cut when it hits DVD as a fair bit was cut to get a pg13 Stateside. That and there won't be hordes of cinema-goers screaming in my house. Just me! lol

I'm aware of the Japanese ghost thing, that wasn't what bugged me. It seemed obvious that some American studio execs said "hey! That "Ring" movie was a big hit! let's find another Japanese horror flick to remake! Let's make sure it looks as much like "The Ring" as we can, because we want to stick to what was successful. It was the camera angles, cinemetography, etc. that made it a Ring knock-off.

See, I thought that the "drawn out" stuff, got old. We saw waaaaay too much of the ghosts, for one thing. It was the quick glimpse type stuff that was effective, not the scenes with the kid and the mother standing there making cat and croaking sounds. There was no real feel that they were supernatural at all. In fact, Sarah Michelle PICKS UP one of the ghosts! Also, the CGI ghost stuff was just plain bad. I think when the ghosts are somewhat hidden from view, or seen in brief glimpes, it works far better. Again, I think this is where they were ripping off The Ring, because in that film, it wasn't entirely clear what the deal with the little girl was. She was a spirit, but her purpose wasn't real clear. This film tried to do that as well, but failed misreably.

I also DIDN'T feel that SMG was able to shed her Buffy character. It was Buffy, without her powers, essentially.

I might check this out, but I'm not sure. I just didn't care for the film enough to sit through it again. It does piss me off this new trend for making horror films PG-13 just to get all the kids into it. I'm not hung up on gore at all, but don't tone down a film just to bring in the kiddies. Some things kids SHOULDN'T be allowed to see.

Cool discussing this with ya!

Not at 1am in a dark room watching it on your own you wouldn't.

what i found 'funny' were groups of people screaming in the cinema then laughing to cover up the fact they were scared. Is this a new trend cause it got a bit annoying?
