Is this picture boring? I took it up in Tahoe this summer and sometimes I like it, but sometimes I think it's boring....

Perhaps because it's dead center. If the tree were more distinct, or had more character, it might work. The way its composed now, its kind of treating the tree like its some sort of icon. Theres some interesting textures, and my eye keeps going back and forth between the thin frail tumble-weed lookng branches and the heavy trunk. Maybe try and shoot it from a different angle to crop out the background scenery, and just get the pitch black of the water, and focus more on the shapes on the tree as an abstraction.

perhaps because it's dead center. Dead center works in this case, though...it pulls you into the photo more directly.

Thanks for the critique!

Ok, you just added a LOT more..lol I agree, cutting out the background trees would make this photo more dramatic, as well as intensifying the darkness of the water. Everything else, though, is pretty well done..

I don't know about altering the shot I like it. Byron is right in that it sucks you in. There is a lot going on so once "in" you begin to look at all that is happening.

The shot is good! But.....maybe next time if you shot it lower using the shape of the tree more. A lower angle might give you a different look at what you want to project.
