I wouldn't worry about it. This is Tim Burton we're talking about, not the jackass who did "The Cat in the Hat".

I have too much faith in Burton to worry about "hip" references or bathroom humour.

You're right..and it's true that if anybody can do justice to the story it'll be Tim. smile

I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the sets, especially the within the factory. I think THAT will definitely be awesome.

I say GO TIM and just see both movies as seperate thingies and enjoy both of them.

I remember Burton saying sumthing about him thinking the original movie was or either daft or scary.

Noepie? Which one was it?

It was scary. He thought Willie Wonka was scary. He wanted to make WIllie Wonka FUN. That was it.

He looks quite gothic...much as I like Johnny Depp, I really dont think this film needed to be remade. Trying to improve on the orginal with cgi isnt going to add to the enjoyment I dont think. The charm of the original movie is the fact that the effects were subtle and kind of cardboard cut out.

This one wont have the innocence of the original imo.

The original wasn't supposed to be innocent. Roald Dahl apparently hated how kid movie-ish it had been made. Ever read the book? It's quite clear that it's supposed to be dark and even a bit disturbing.

I can't wait! woot!

I have read the book and I agree that the movie left out some of the darker aspects. However, I watched it as a young child before I read the book and it completely captured my imagination, I thought it was amazing. Roald Dahl is bloody brilliant.

I'll reserve my judgement..a bit wink

I just get a feeling it might be over the top with special effects. In the original the effects are secondary to the hilarious characters, humour and the story of the child who finally gets a break. But with a lot of movies recently the whole movie is sold on the visuals rather than any discernable plot.

Most of Roald Dahl's childrens books contain elements of darkness, we will see if this version is true to his vision. I hope it is.

I have faith in Tim Burton to do this story justice. No bathroom humour, no pop culture references, no over-the-top special effects.

BTW, I'd seen the original movie as kid before I read the book too. I hated it. To each their own, and all that.

Johnny Depp will be a shitty Willy Wonka. Period.

The first one was an absolute classic, I dunno about Johnny, I don't like the way he's dresed for this movie, I would prefer him looking more crazy looking, Gene was magic in willy wonka lets hope it's not demolished by the wreching ball of crappy remakes.

Wow! I knew nothing about this! One of my fave books of all time being made byone of my fave directors (I didn't see Planet of the Apes! wink ).

I loved the book, but I also enjoyed the original movie - come on, love the oompa-loompa song! Both were when I was a kid, book first, I think that's why I prefer it, but still liked the movie.

I'm MOST excited about them using the proper name - I never got why they changed it for the movie, but this way the 2 films will be clearly distinguished.

Oh, and I also like JD.

So, overall, woot!
