Calif. Jury to Announce Peterson Verdict at 4 p.m. EST
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (Reuters) - After several days of turmoil that saw two jurors dismissed from the case, the jury reached a verdict on Friday in the double-murder trial of California fertilizer salesman Scott Peterson (news - web sites).



The verdict was set to be read at 1 p.m. local time (4 p.m. EST) Friday.


Peterson, 32, is charged with murdering his wife Laci, who was eight months pregnant at the time of her death with her son Conner. The bodies washed ashore in April 2003 along an area of the San Francisco Bay where Peterson admittedly took his fishing boat the day Laci disappeared.

if the jury is actually fair and does their job correctly, he will be found not guilty.

there is just no way one can convict him, fairly, in criminal court. there is so much reasonable doubt. all of the evidence was circumstantial. no witnesses. regardless of personal feelings or emotions, he should be let off.

well, keep in mind the jury has not seen the media coverage the way we have. and they've also heard both sides as opposed to the general public who gets to hear a real life "daytime drama" for which the verdict has already been determined.

I've not followed the case much, but I'm guessing he's going to be found not guilty. Generally speaking, any time the jury reaches a decision this quickly it's a not guilty verdict.

The only problem i would have with a non-guilty verdict is, that there would be no way to prove he did it, even if he did do it.
You've got motive, you've got opportunity, ... so from what i gather the guy did kill her.
So maybe we should answer two questions here:
1) did he do it?
2) will he be found guilty?
And if you answer these questions differently, did the system fail and why?

they found him guilty! the us judicial system has so many problems.

Second decree murder for the child, seems like a 'reasonable' verdict. I'm not familiar enough with US law to say if it's also a 'by the rules' verdict.

Personally, I think he's guilty. Do I think he got a fair trial? From the little bit that I've read - no. There was a lot of circumstantial evidence, but it's not impossible to pull a guilty verdict with only circumstantial evidence.

I'm watching CNN and they're reporting the jury claimed to have "special circumstances" for finding him guilty. Wonder specifically what they are.

I still don't get why this was made such a big deal.





It's not like it hasn't happened before, and won't happen again.

Seriously -were they celebrities or something before all this and I never noticed? Because otherwise I really don't understand the international media coverage.

they had to. the atmosphere of the case is that he is guilty, regardless of evidence. just the thought of his pregnant dead wife and him being not guilty would cause all kinda shit. there would be some very angry folks.
