Reminds me of the Watts Towers here in Los Angeles:
All created by hand using broken soda bottles, sea shells and discarded tiles... ...and all by one man: Simon Rodia, and immigrant from Italy.

that they never finish !!!??? Exactly. Gaudi started the project 1883 and as you can see it is still a building site... Currently they are working on the roof:

Peter- my memory is fading ...
did Gaudi actualy start it ... or ... did he just "dream it " ... and after his death ... wasnt it a "controversy " whether to start it or finish it ??? i know that alot of spanish people find it horrible ... (maybe too harsh a word ) ... i just think it s kinda funny .... that ... it still always has cranes in the picture ... i remember seeing alot of Gaudi when i was there ... wayyyy back in 87....

There were plans from another architect before but Gaudi had his own ideas when he started the project in 1883. Gaudi worked on this cathedral for the rest of his life. He was still changing construction plans when he died in a traffic accident in 1926.

[Edited 11/9/04 10:34am] no idea how it's called The "Sagrada Familia", I was so impressed when I saw it the first time in art class. Gaudi is one of the most incredible and talented architect the 20th century has known Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity
