but at least i got to visit with it! i'd probably fall to my knees and have a mental fit if i actually visited the church, if only because it's so beautiful...never mind that it's the setting of the cover of one of my favoritest prince albums! I would love to see this church in person. Thank you for sharing the pictures, peter!

I went up here in 1996. This is where I discovered just how scared of heights I actually am. I paid to go up the elevator only to get up to the top and find I couldn't bring myself to look out at the view - the wind blowing through the towers is what did it (I've been up the Centrepoint tower in Sydney and felt quite secure behind the glass.) I practically had to crawl down the stairs to get back down!

I've never heard of it before. Is it a large structure? It’s located near one of the more dangerous areas of Los Angeles...The man who created it (Simon Rodia) immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900's, I believe. He build the entire structure on his property, took something like 30-40 years to complete. You should see the place, there are so many “discarded” things embedded within it’s concrete and wires...it’s beautiful. I think the L.A. Cultural Affairs department took over the maintenance of it after Simon died...there’s an arts center located on site now..they have famous artists showings there, and have a jazz festival every summer. I taught graphic design and photography to inner city kids there for three years...an amazing experience.

I practically had to crawl down the stairs to get back down! I feel you. I am not afraid of height, but I don't feel comfortable either. As the elevator was out of order I went up the stairs, but just to the first platform and then I decided to just have a quick look around and to return back down to safe earth With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....
