I'm pretty sure there was a thread like this recently but I can't find it and I want to show off my new avatar.

The origins are rather complicated. I started off thinking about the fact that people are like suns: If we don't maintain our core of light and warmth our rays break and we can't connect to anything else. In other words we have to take care of ourselves inside first because if we don't we won't have positivity in of our actions toward others.
But I'd rather think of myself as a shining star in a dark quiet sky beaming through. I find it more romantic and serene and less corny and I like the night sky. It's more interesting than just plain sunshine.
So I came up with an image of a heart shape with kind of spikes coming out making it look star-like. I like heart shapes because that's the point of the symbol.
Then I was talking with a friend about the election and how a lot of people voted for Bush because of "moral values". I resent the implication and the entire notion that many people have that you can't be moral without religion. Personally I think religion keeps a lot of people from being as moral as they could be because people need to be looking more inside themselves and at their own actions instead of what other people are saying and doing. So I wanted to think of how I could make that statement in a subtle way. I wanted something hanging around my neck like a cross but obviously not. I thought an upside-down cross would be more offensive than I would like. Then it hit me. I can make a cross shape with a bold x through it.
So more or less that's what you have there. Someday I want to have that symbol made into a pendant to wear around my neck, preferably in platinum with the points (people) at the ends of the rays being small diamonds.
