I was just watching Northern Lights outside! I was just standing in my street watching the Northern Lights dancing over Detroit! It was SO amazing...lights of green, white and red flowing all over the night sky!

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections... unknown

Too beautiful... What's the matter? and it IS so beautiful...here's another pic that sort of represents what we've got going on here: I wish Azure was online right now...I'd like to let her know it's going on...I'm sure you can see them really good from her house.

Nothing's wrong...at all. Just seeing that type of beauty in nature effects me...it makes me wish I was there, observing it directly, sitting in silence, surrounded by it all. I just text messaged Azure, and told her to go out and look at the lights..lol

It's almost a little frightening...that type of power that nature has.,.I'm really awestruck. I'm sure it'll be going on all night...I'm going to have to go out again after I warm up

Night skies are typically aglow with twinkling stars and planets and the occasional streak of a meteor or the tail of a comet, but in the northern and southern reaches of this planet, a different celestial experience is commonplace. The auroras -- borealis and australis -- are known more familiarly as the northern and southern lights, and they have captured the imagination of the earth-bound since time immemorial. Caused by particles in a solar wind interacting with Earth's magnetic field, they are shimmering sheets of light that capture the imagination and send it darting along paths of magic and wonder. Medieval Europe saw the lights as heavenly warriors, or in some cases omens of death, illness or war. In the northernmost lands of Scandinavia where their showing is most spectacular, the lights were viewed with awe and respect. From humble beginnings -- a faint glow on the horizon -- the auroras become phosphorescent, dramatic, drapery-like lights arcing over the night sky. The southern and northern light shows are connected by the earth's magnetic fields, and their displays are symmetrical. The fame is less evenly divided, however -- only the northern portion is designated a wonder of the natural world. www.cnn.com/.../9711/ natural.wonders/lights.html [Edited 11/7/04 20:50pm]
