I give to the United Way through payroll deduction. I also volunteer at various events throughout the year. OK, maybe 1 or 2.
And I give to a few political causes but that's not exactly charity, per se.

Nope, I don't trust them.
I want to know my money is really going to the needy.
We give direct.
My husband did the most beautiful thing once, when we were visiting family in Georgia.

We were at a McDonald's and there was an older woman with long white hair sitting outside, holding her head in her hands. She was obviously destitute and she appeared to be praying.
My husband gave my daughter, who was 11 at the time, 20 bucks and told her to give it to this lady.
My daughter did so and I sware, the woman looked up at my daughter as if God had sent her. It was extremely moving.
I felt good about that for days.

I DO NOT give to the huge charities like The United Way who have executives making millions and millions of dollars and flying around on private jets. 20 cents out of every dollar is never given to the needy people you think you are helping.

Also, I do not give to the United Way because they support the Boyscouts who do not support gay leaders or members. I cringe everytime I think about this because I was a boyscout from ages 5-18.

I bring it the United Way because we are cosntantly being hit up at work to give the United Way. We are forced to go to meetings and fill out cards even if we do not want to give. I shouldn't be forced to hand in a card saying that I would like to donate $0 because it's just a tactic used to embarrass me to give.

But at the end of the day I probably don't give enough to charity although I think my time is a better donation because when money is involved you can't trust anyone.

Also, it should be said that anyone who pays taxes is giving to charity because our Government heads the biggest chairity of them all.

I gave already this year to the Lukemia Foundation and the ASPCA.

I also usually give to the seeing eye dog foundation.. I think that is a wonderful thing and try to give as much as i can to this foundation. However, i havne't gotten anything yet this year.. I am going to have to contact them!

Is it enough to give to charity? I wonder that. Perhaps as well as money we should be living differently. I wonder that too.

Yes, I give to the following charities because I have someone close to me that suffers with a particular disease.

Crohns & Colitus
Arthritis Society
Heart & Stroke
About Face (people with facial deformities)

I don't give to anyone asking for donations in subways, malls and other public places. I send money directly to the above organizations twice a year.

It is great to give to charity, and how you chose your living is up to you.

Yes it is great, but is it enough? Shouldn't we all be living more charitably is what I'm asking?
