I had the nicest down to earth conversation with the security guard at my place of work today...

He's south african, and moved to France 27 years ago when he was 14, and has a girlfriend in Nice. He regrets not being able to continue his education because he used to get beat by his teachers at school eek Ok fair enough it was bank holiday and I was the only guy there, but still I just found it so refreshing to talk to him. The majority of my colleagues induce narcolepsy sad

Rarely do people break the social divide in my line of work, and I think it's a damn shame. The place I worked at before used to have cleaners come through while we would still be working late, to tidy up all the crap that we'd thrown all over the place during the day...and I would be the only person who would even acknowledge their presence with a simple 'hi'. Makes me seeth sometimes. mad
jerkoff.....drool BULLSEYE! cool

Being happy doesn't mean that everything is perfect, it means you've decided to look beyond the imperfections... unknown

The place I work at is kinda like that too. But I always say hello, and thanks and such to the cleaning folks at my work, and I've noticed at least a handful of other people do too. It's a bit difficult, though as most of the cleaning and maintenance crew at my work only speaks Spanish. I once tried to chat about the weather or something with one of them and she couldn't understand me, nor me her. sad aw well.
