End to Cervical Smears

News out today indicates that we have developed a vaccine against HPV, the virus associated with cervical cancer. When administered to girls (and boys come to think of it the article didn't mention that hmmm) prior to commencement of sexual lifestyle this could eliminate the spread of HPV and consequently cervical cancer.

At last a realistic cancer breakthrough makes the headlines woot!

Oh, P.S. Keep going for smears in the meanwhile though girls you know it makes sense!

The article suggests it might be as soon as three years before it is used.

Finally someone posts useful information on here.

Let's hope this doesn't get lost in the 20 "I've Taught My Penis To Sing" or "My Toaster Says I'm Pretty But I Want To Be Just Friends" threads.

Very cool news, PREDOMINANT-I hope science continues with such advances, each developed faster than the next-we need it.

I guess so, they haven't really discussed how it will be introduced. The thing that is awkward is that they don't strictly speaking test for the virus on a screening level. they rely on cell morphology - smear. Since, if you have HPV you don't definately get cancer. It would be a bit scary to tell someone that they are now hight risk but there is not a lot we can do. So I imagine that it will be introduced across the board. Although I do see other promlems too. It's complex, obveously.

lol. I feel silly admitting this, but I had no idea what a pap smear was up until about a month ago when I read a similar article on this lol.

That is very good news though.
