well, I've worked out a tentative date to leave Australia - Sunday 20th February I'll fly out of Australia

I've been looking and here's what I've found

I can FLY LA - NYC for US$138
or go by GREYHOUND COACH LA - NYC (with 2 stops along the way) for US$174
or go by AMTRAK TRAIN LA - NYC for US$133

hmmm

guess it just depends on how long you want to spend between LA and NY. if you just want to get from LA to NY with as little time as possible between, then fly it. if you want to see some countryside and go through the US, take amtrak. (i still say avoid the bus)

the cool thing about amtrak is that you can take a cooler along with you. you could stop in a grocery store before you get on the train and buy sandwich stuff to eat along the way. then you don't have to spend mucho dinero on the amtrak "meals". that's what we did when we went from chicago to NY. it was an extra bag, but the savings made it worth it. nod

I've never ridden on a train, but I have taken Greyhound from Fla to my home. It was about 17 yrs ago, so.... tease I didn't have any trouble on the bus. I think that someone as nice as you should take the train simply because buses tend to house "undesireables" and they prey on nice people like you, Natisse. If you think that you can sort of keep a cap on your lovely self, then you should be ok. The one horrible thing about traveling via Greyhound is that ungodly smell eminating from the back of the bus...namely, the bathroom. ill I don't care where you sit on a bus, that stench will get to you after a while and it really makes your head swoon. Correction: I have taken the bus to several places now that I think about it. smile Those trips were only several hours each though, but still....that smell made me wanna puke. biggrin I am with Apples and Fantasy, I think a train is better. If you were someone like say....Althom, you could fare the bus pretty well. wink tease I see that the bus fare is more expensive than the train anyway. Besides that, sleeping on a bus SUCKS big time. Atleast on a train, you might have the opportunity to lay down a bit. Perhaps they will have a sleeping car for you. I know nothing about train travel. lol I just know that the blue stuff that sits in the bottom of the bus potty along with everything else that has been laying there for God knows how long will get to you if you plan on traveling for long periods of time. If I can help you in anyway, org note me. hug
