Offensive? Only if your sensibilities are a shaky, fragile house of cards.

he is offensive in a way that makes you laugh and then you think it is ok the way he disrespects people and makes certain things like drugs seem like a great idea that should be embraced.

personally i would never watch, i have only done so when others have choosen that program and i am usually reading ignoring the tv anyway

It depends if you see the irony or not. It can be very clever at times but at others it is scraping the bottom of the barrel of comedy.

I found his awful movie offensive.

The only time I left a cinema before a film ended, was whilst watching his shitty alleged "comedy".

bull.....lawd rolleyes

and if white ppl don't complain about stuff they are offended by...why do ppl criticize other groups who do.

But if he's a white man poking fun at white ppl, why would we say that's racist? David Chappelle makes fun of black ppl....etc, etc.....and yes there are white comics that make fun of black folks....they are on comic view all the time....

its called comedy...disbelief

Americans just DON'T GET HIM. There is a distinct lack of irony in some Americans, which is why I Heart Huckabees has been so widely misunderstood by much of the American media as another example. A great film, with great humour that a lot of Americans JUST DON'T GET.

Anyway, Ali G. He's HILARIOUS. Have you ever seen him interviewed when he's not acting? He's extremely intelligent, but perhaps too intelligent for some Americans. Yes, he's offensive, but only to prudes.

It's because America has a lot of race issues in society (duhh, i know), more than England and other Western parts of the world. It's hard for them to get past their own baggage they have about race when seeing someone so irreverent as Sacha Baron Cohen playing a guy who so obviously wants to be black, but is obviously not. Some Americans just can't lighten up and see it from a fresh perspective of POKING FUN, it would seem. It's not intended to be antagonistic to ANYONE, but mention "race" to a lot of Americans and they get very serious. Which is also what he pokes fun at in his U.S. version of the show.

Yeah, generalizing about Americans because your hand is on the pulse of our baggage. rolleyes

We see it everyday with people here and it's part of American culture, like it or not. Rather than play out the drama of your mind maybe go for the obvious, his humor gets old after 5 minutes and it's just not that funny. Check out Dave Chapelle, he's who we are all laughing with and he makes fun of EVERYONE.

Offended? Now that's FUNNY

don't be ridiculous. i'm not generalising about Americans, I'm making an educated comment on A LOT of them. I did not say all. It's plain and obvious that a lot of yanks lack a sense of irony and ability to lighten up and poke fun at themselves. I do have a few close American friends however, who totally get English humour and THEY FEEL THE SAME about a lot of their fellow countrymen who JUST DON'T GET IT. It sounds like you're included. Also, Dave Chappele is indeed great, but not always on the same level of wry wit that Sacha Baron Cohen is. Chappele is often mere parody, Cohen is tongue in cheek, social comment that speaks volumes on the kind of people he's actually making fun of. like them, you need to lighten the fuck up, i would suggest!

and please, refrain from talking about the "drama of (my) mind" when you have no real knowledge of me, my dear!

I also found the FILM offensive simply because it was SHIT.

As far as whether his humour is in good or bad taste, maybe this will help you decide: I SUGGEST ALL AMERICANS CHECK THIS OUT (unless ofcourse you've already seen it giggle)
