Well in my eyes noone should take the life of another whether it be human or bugs. BUT!!!....if that human or bug comes into my home and is a threat...YOU'RE DEAD!! The man who does not read good books has no advantage over the man who cannot read them. -- Mark Twain.

So no killing of animals due to religious beliefs? Sure.. I can buy that.. So what does "being"(s) encompass? Is it just humans and animals or are insects and even plants included? prove me wrong

So no killing of animals due to religious beliefs? Sure.. I can buy that.. So what does "being"(s) encompass? Is it just humans and animals or are insects and even plants included? the cycle of suffering can be broken, and we are all encouraged to do our part. we know that human and non-human animals can experience pain through their central nervous system. therefore, i would include all living beings. the jury is still out as to whether plants can feel pain. living wisely by not polluting nature and saving resources is a way to limit a person's impact on nature as well. am i a nun living on rice and water? no. am i trying to do my part? sure. back to my question - in what way do you think you're endowed with the right to kill, directly or indirectly?

ok you include all living beings in your definition, but you yourself have admitted that you kill insects every time you drive your car or take a walk in the forrest...
this makes your religious argument inconsistent.. either you kill or do not kill living beings whether or not it is intentional. For me personally, it is not problem that animals are killed for food or fur. As this thread demonstrates, it is all about feelings and not about logic. People, in general, have no problem killing insects, but they do have a problem killing animals cause they have an emotional bond with them. That is a logical inconsistency... that's all Im saying (Baby seals, cats, dogs etc.) prove me wrong

That is a logical inconsistency... that's all Im saying (Baby seals, cats, dogs etc.) don't get me wrong, i'm a meat eater, i love me some fried chicken! but it looks to me like you're deliberately misunderstanding her posts. she said she doesn't intentionally kill another being. killing a spider that walks under your car tire is all but impossible to avoid. she's getting at the fact that you (and i) eat meat, thereby deliberately killing another being. i'm all for your arguments and everything, but IB has my respect on this one.

actually it is not impossible.. especially not if you are a confessed buddhist there's is actually a buddhist sect that live their lives so they dont kill any living beings - insects included. So they watch their step to avoid stepping on insects for instance.. I will agree that this is extreamly difficult in a modern western world, but it's not impossible. Back to the "intentional killing" argument: It doesnt matter to the animal or insect whether or not it was intentionally or unintentionally killed... it's gonna die anyway So in terms of suffering it is the same; and the relief of suffering is the core presmise IB follows which - as demonstrated - doesn't stand further scrutiny. prove me wrong
