Yankees Fans I wanna know how you felt about the calls the umpires made last night.
Do you think they were fair? How do you feel about A-Rod's "mishap"? I think it's a shame there can't be good clean baseball. Apparently A-Rod's a little confused between baseball and football. And why did the fans get so pissed off when it was obvious what he did? Sore losers maybe? Yeah, you're not used to losing but it's envitable it's gonna happen at some point in time. I was really bummed to see a professional play dirty like that... [Edited 10/20/04 7:42am]

actually, i believe he knew he was gonna be out anyway, so why not try, if the umpire makes a bad call, hey alright! if not, like i said, he's out anyway.....
i look at that as just playing hard, even if the sox did it, i would think the same way..... if you're not cheating, you're not trying, and it's only cheating if you're caught.

He SMACKED his arm down to knock out the ball. That's just stupid to do and nasty. Play the game clean, or at least don't make it so obvious. If my Red Sox did that I would have been disgusted with them.

Yankee fan gets into argument with Red Sox fans about the game. Shoots 3 and kills 1.

The calls were correct.
Watching the replay, the ball hit that guy in the stands and was actually a home-run by Bellhorn. Alex tried to knock the ball out of Arroyo's glove like a pansy. And the Yankees deserve to lose for letting them tie the series.

And the Yankees deserve to lose for letting them tie the series. What's funny is that these teams are both equal. They have both won 25 games each out of the last 50 they played against each other. Yet neither of them give each other the credit, or at least the fans don't. I was very happy with the umpires calls because they were the RIGHT calls. If it were vice versa I would say the same thing.

Eff the Yankees, go Red Sox. Boston and the people that live there rock!

Not a fan, but it was great to see questionable plays get the right call from the umpires. ARod clearly knocked that ball out of Arroyo's hand, and Bellhorn clearly went yard--Matsui's body language said as much. The fan whose body deflected the ball even said it was a homerum and SHE WAS A YANKEES FAN!!!
The police were there in riot gear, just in case things got funky. And you wonder why NY gets a bad rap.

At a baseball forum today, someone posted about a conversation he overheard. The Yankees fan was bitching that Steinbrenner should have fired Joe Torre when they didn't win last year! Somebody needs to tell this guy to relax. This ALCS isn't over yet. Good grief.

I agree that A-Rod was wrong for doing what he did.
According to Section 6.1 of the MLB Umpire Manual, ``While contact may occur between a fielder and runner during a tag attempt, a runner is not allowed to use his hands or arms to commit an obviously malicious or unsportsmanlike act.'' You will notice, if you watch the replay, that he (A-Rod) veers off to the right as he is running. The base-runner has the “right of way” on the basepath. SO, if he had just continued to run straight towards the bag & ran over Arroyo, the chance exists that Arroyo would have been called for interference. In any event, the game is over and the season hinges on 27 outs for each team.... Carrie (& the rest of the Sox fans), good luck tonight!!! [Edited 10/20/04 13:59pm]
