What exactly is the sweetest day?

I understand it's not a universal holiday...

But here in MI, the ladies get two Valentines Day's...one in October.

Don't get me wrong. I think it's sweet you're doing something nice for your girl.

I'm just a bitter old spinster who doesn't understand the need for such holidays.

so this is a girl thing then? i don't want my boyfriend getting all peeved at me cuz i didn't buy him a sweetest day wreath or stocking or basket or whatever the hell i'm supposed to do.

im lucky if i get a card for my birthday or anniversary

actually, I gave my hunny a FREE present...i'm hiding upstairs and letting him watch Days of Our Lives from the dvr all nite. That's the best gift EVER!

hence why I don't get into the whole thing to begin with. i don't really care about valentines day either. i want to celebrate it, but always feel like i'm getting ripped off if i do anything to celebrate it. my partner and I do hang out together on these days...we just don't get into the present thing or going out to eat thing on these days.

we try and make the birthdays more special and put in effort aronund those times (there's two) and keep the anniversary intact. oh and other little things of course.

Pill is the sweetest part of everyday, so I'm not sure what he could do different.

Could a diabetic participate?

Observed the 3rd Saturday in the month of October, Sweetest Day observance originated in Cleveland in 1922. Herbert Birch Kingston, a philanthropist and candy company employee wanted to bring happiness into the lives of orphans, shut-ins and others who were forgotten. With the help of friends, he began to distribute candy and small gifts to the underprivileged.

On the first Sweetest Day, movie star Ann Pennington presented 2,200 Cleveland newspaper boys with boxes of candy to express gratitude for their service to the public.
Another popular movie star, Theda Bara, distributed 10,000 boxes of candy to people in Cleveland hospitals and also gave candy to all who came to watch her film in a local theater.

Primarily a regional observance celebrated in the Great Lakes region and the Northeast, Sweetest Day is gradually spreading to other areas of the country. People tend to take the Sweetest Day tradition with them when they move. Ohio is the top state for Sweetest Day sales, followed by Michigan and Illinois. Texas, California and Florida are among the top 10 states in sales.

Over the years, Sweetest Day has evolved into a time to express romantic love and also to show appreciation to friends.
