My First Performance At Second City! Okee doke, for those who have been asking about how my Second City experience is going, here's the latest:
I've finished my first two levels of improv at Second City, and when I start my third level of classes next week, my class is going to be working toward our first performance in front of an audience, which will happen at the end of our eight weeks of class. After that, every other level I take ends with a performance for the public and after my fifth level I become a conservatory student, which is gonna open up a lot of opportunities for me to take advanced scriptwriting and directing classes, which is the nitty-gritty of what I really REALLY wanna do at Second City... I'm an okay performer, but I don't think I'm a great improv person. I can make with the funny, but it takes a while for it to ferment and it's really difficult as an only child to meld into the whole "think as a group" thing (though these classes have been a really good challenge for me to get out of my head and play nicely with others). That said, I enjoy performing improv (in class, anyway) a whole lot more than I thought I would. Maybe there's hope for me yet. Anyhoo, in eight weeks I'll be showing off my improv chops for the first time, and performing on a stage for the first time in, oh, about seven years. The last time I performed was in New York City, so I guess if I could make it there, I'll mak...well, you know the rest... I'm just really happy that I've stuck with my classes this long. Here's to hoping I can keep on keepin' on throughout the winter...

How fantastic, Anx!!!!
You have a lot to be proud of, doing this. I hope that all your goals become reality, and that you always "break a leg".

Definitely keep me updated Anx-that place has such a historic comedic background.
SNL and comedy as whole just wouldn't be the same without the Second City influence. I have a problem with playing with others (aside from knives) myself. Good luck!

I started out with a really negative experience at Second City - my first class there was a scriptwriting course and I really hated it...as it turned out, when I talked to other people it turned out that the person who tought me was kinda a notoriously crappy teacher, and so I figured I'd give the place a second chance. And I'm REALLY glad I did - my classes are a really great addition to my life (cheesy as that sounds), and it's way exciting to think that I could take it as far as I want - I could eventually be writing and directing my own work there if I keep up with their program.
