I'm a researcher in the breast cancer field. I'm no physician but i do know some of the stats:
The earlier it is detected, the more chance you have to get rid of it (alas, no guarantees though ) I can appreciate it can be a hassle or maybe painful, but do go and have it checked. Please Alf is wondering if the mods might make this a sticky for the month october ? You don't scare me; i got kids

There is a new diagnosis every 3 minutes and a life lost every 14 minutes.
I'm aware that I've got a lump in my left breast and I have an ultrasound scheduled for next Monday. It's not a very happy awareness.
Good luck. | |

I'm not defending Bush but those NP were around long before he or his father were in office. But I do agree about them being part of the problem of some of the newer cases.

If they are concerned, not sure if they will do a needle biopsy right then and there or schedule surgical biopsy for later. We'll see. It's probably nothing. I'm 24, no family history. . .but it's still nervewracking. Well...it sounds like you've got all things going for you I'm sending you my best...please keep us posted, ok?

Freespirit said: Awareness is key and early detection determines everything. At the very least... everyone should get their annual physicals, no if ands or butts. Self examination is so easy... I found a lump just last summer and did the whole ultrasound and mammogram procedure. It turned out to be a cyst, which are very common and can be drained with a needle (yes...through the breast). It does not hurt much and it is all over in 10 minutes.
Tackam... best wishes... Getting it checked out and early is the responsible thing to do. We only live once and... in truth we must tend to ourselves, no one can do it for us. Your story is VERY encouraging to those of us dealing with the unknown lump. Its so scary. I cried for 30 minutes when my girlfriend showed it to me. Thank you so much. Is she having chemo now? Yes, her mom's just started chemo a week ago. She goes back and forth, really. Yesterday, she was feeling pretty good, but we still had to keep the kids and dogs away from her, since this is the time period that her immune system is at its weekest. Still, I'm encouraged by her progress. Hopefully, the chemo will do the trick. She's already had a lumpectomy, and had her lymph nodes removed from her arm. I'm praying she beats this, and soon!! The docs seem to think that she will only have to do chemo for about 8 months. I'll keep everyone posted!! Thanks so much!! I will mention... that my best friend had breast cancer and she is doing well. Her mother and sister both had their personal experiences with breast cancer as well... her mother has passed, although her sister is well and so is she. Regular check-ups and early detection... and the prevention of further spreading into or of the lymph nodes raised her chances of beautiful recovery. Note me Jedi if you ever wish.

JediMaster said: Thanks for posting this. My girlfriend's mother (who is currently living with us) is being treated for breat cancer. To top it off, we found a lump in my girlfriend's breast this weekend. Hoping its nothing, but she is going in tomorrow to get it checked out.
The good thing (if there is such a thing with this) is that her mom having this made her much more aware. It got her doing her personal exams again, which led to her finding this. You take care of your girlfriend and her Mum pal, don't forget yourself too Fingers crossed for both your loved ones, I hope all goes well for them. I hope it's nothing. Fingers crossed for you too Tackam. Think positive and just wait until you get the results, then take things from there. "..My work is personal, I'm a working person, I put in work, I work with purpose.."
