October Is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is breast canser awareness month. In the USA,breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women, and it can strike men as well. There is a new diagnosis every 3 minutes and a life lost every 14 minutes. Breast cancer now affects one woman in 9 during her lifetime in the United Kingdom.
* Breast cancer is the commonest cancer in minority ethnic groups in the UK.
* Breast cancer claims more years of life from women under 65 than coronary heart disease.
* Every week 730 new breast cancers are diagnosed and 250 women die from breast cancer.
* Each year 38,000 women are newly diagnosed and 13,100 women die from breast cancer.
* Survival rates are improving, on average 74 per cent of women are still alive five years later. This cancer has affected family and friends in one way or another. Please take time this month to reflect on the survivors and those who have been lost. I have had 3 women in mine and my ex's family that have been diagnosed and survived this cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with those facing the same. Thanks for you time in reading this and please take the time to research this subject more. Thanks Steph smile

tackam

I'm aware that I've got a lump in my left breast and I have an ultrasound scheduled for next Monday. It's not a very happy awareness.

sigh

I hope it's nothing.

Thank you. hug

Whether or not there is a biopsy will depend on what they see on the ultrasound. If they are concerned, not sure if they will do a needle biopsy right then and there or schedule surgical biopsy for later. We'll see.

It's probably nothing. I'm 24, no family history. . .but it's still nervewracking.

Thanks for posting this. My girlfriend's mother (who is currently living with us) is being treated for breat cancer. To top it off, we found a lump in my girlfriend's breast this weekend. Hoping its nothing, but she is going in tomorrow to get it checked out.

The good thing (if there is such a thing with this) is that her mom having this made her much more aware. It got her doing her personal exams again, which led to her finding this.

Awareness is key and early detection determines everything. At the very least... everyone should get their annual physicals, no if ands or butts. Self examination is so easy... I found a lump just last summer and did the whole ultrasound and mammogram procedure. It turned out to be a cyst, which are very common and can be drained with a needle (yes...through the breast). It does not hurt much and it is all over in 10 minutes.

Tackam... best wishes... rose Getting it checked out and early is the responsible thing to do. We only live once and... in truth we must tend to ourselves, no one can do it for us. heart

I agree with you on that, one of my fathers was diagnosed with lymphoma and throat cancer. By the grace of God he's in remission and as to date is cancer free, I am so sorry to hear about your mom and volunteer. Thank you for sharing that hug
