What is the deal with "strangers with candy"? Being that I know a lot of people who watch the show and enjoy it, I've watched it myself a few times but never got into it. For those on the org who are fans, could you tell me why you like it? Perhaps I'm missing the nuances of it or something and thats why I'm not finding it the least bit funny.....help me out here orgers

i just think that the offbeat humor on that show was a refreshing alternative to just about any other comedy being produced on television right now.

I have something to SAYYYYY!
It is a strange little ditty. It's the type of show where you have to just get into the humor of it all. There are running gags and story lines that the series relies on. At first the joke about Daddy might seem wierd (as he is constantly in one position) but after watching it a few times, that becomes a joke in and of itself. I did not get it the first time I saw it...as the characters are really over the top and hammy and Jerri was very strange to look at. I think it was the illiterate episode I saw where everyone figures out she can't read. WHen they got to the part where she get's it and can read the word CAT (cross between Miracle Worker and Hellen Keller) I was hooked. It's also one of those series where everythings in the details. I keep thinking it must have been fun putting that show togehter with the props, and clothes (esp Jerris). ANother of my favorites is when Jerri gets pulled in by the Cult. There is a picture of the Principal in practically every scene...be it a painting, picture, wall poster. And in one scene he's telling the students over the loud speaker not to join in the cult. As he is saying this the camera shows over a students shoulder a big picture of him and the eyes keep flashing (like a hypnotist) as when he's talking. It's little things like that. And big things like the dialog. "I'm gonna make your pinky all stinky" or "I like the pole and the hole" or "Nice Cameltoe". Getting away with that kind of stuff on TV usually gets the big nod from me. It is extremely funny, but I do know a few who can't watch it as it is too cring worthy watching her get into situations that she does. Also just to watch Amy and understand what she's doing (by researching her) also help understand where the series is coming from.
