I just received the strangest phone call.

Some guy just called and woke me up from my nap to tell me I've been selected to be the recipient of a government grant for $8000. He already knew my name and address (not hard, since I'm in the phone book) and said because of my financial history and because I've always paid my taxes I've been selected to receive this grant and use the money for whatever I wish and I never have to pay it back. I was like, "WHAT"? Free money is suspect, guy. What's the name of this grant? And he said "Personal Grant". I was like, "It doesn't have a specific name, like the Pell grant or something"? And he didn't really answer that. I asked through which department of the government is it offered through and he didn't really answer that either. In fact he was kind of an ass after that saying, "Don't you know what a grant is?" and I was like but I don't know where this is coming from and I've never heard of such a thing. With all the problems the country is having why the hell would they just decide to send me $8000 that tax payers worked hard for out of nowhere. So I said it was OK to send me the paperwork and I figure I'll turn it in to someone or something. Maybe call the department that's listed on the paperwork and/or turn it into my city council person and see if they know what/who I can check with on it and if this is a hoax (which I'm 99.9% sure it is) maybe they can figure out who's doing it. I mean, what the hell????

Exactly! I'm gessing it's some sort of identity theft scheme where they'll be asking for my social security number and other info.

Nope. Didn't ask for a thing. Just said they'll be sending the paperwork and then after I send it in I'd receive something back within 2-6 months. It was so odd.

On the channel 11 news in MN they just had a story on about a woman who was called and told that she had been rewarded a grant from the government but they asked her for all her info...it sounds like the same people though. Maybe they could tell you sounded unsure so they just said they would mail you the forms.
