is it possible to tell if your child has something special? all kids are special. i don't want to sound like one of those mothers that think their kids do everything right or is better than everyone else's child. he's only 4 and he loves music and sometimes i wonder. he can't stay away from the stereo when i play my cd's (my two other boys are always somewhere else playing). we don't have any instruments or anything but he's always making beats with his mouth. he does this in the tub, in the bed before he goes to sleep, walking to the store, while drawing and on the way to school - just about anywhere. he always stops me and tells me "ma listen to this new beat i made?" whatever music i play he remembers who it is. one time he was making the beats to roy ayers and even some stevie. he wants to play the guitar. i thought about putting him in a school but i don't want to force him. a lot of times he stays up with me and just listens.

Moderator | Buy him a little kid guitar and get him lessons!
If he wants to stop then let him stop. Who knows what can happen ? In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

You may regret the noise but what about buying him a drum or a small drum set?
The noise may make you want to kill yourself though. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

i work with kids and almost every day there's at least one parent (or two) that believes their child is some kind of prodigy -- it's cool because parents should think their kids are special and do anything they can to encourage their "gifts and talents" -- but if these parents knew how many other parents say the same things about their own kids, then... well, i guess it's better they don't know -- i think the most successful (or should i say happiest) people in the world are those who had some kind of advocate in their lives who believed they were special and encouraged them to achieve their dreams -- so really, that "something special" your child has... it's you!

I bought my 3 year old daughter a keyboard and microphone. She sits down and sings us songs ALL the time. It's like having a personal piano man in your livingroom.....on second thoughts.....you might want to kill yourself after getting him this as well.

How do you tell?
Hold them upside down and if you see 999 on the back of their forehead or scalp, that means your child is truly talented. Actually, music is the best bet to encourage creativity. Guitar wise Fender makes a Squier series, more economy friendly prices and be sure to look for one that's not too big for them if they're one of the smaller sort of future musical geniuses. I wouldn't spend too much though until you know there's an interest-kids can go back and forth between hobbies and fun until they find their favorite. The 999 thing, that's the key though.
