A Question About Fasting...

So I have to have a physical at the doctor's office in the morning and they called me today to remind me that I have to fast for 12 hours prior to the appointment, which means I have to quit shovelling food in my face in like half an hour. sad

My question is this - does fasting mean I can't drink or smoke either? I mean, just because I'm fasting doesn't mean I should be refused all the fun I deserve to have! What if I want to go play pool with my buddies Jim-Bob and Carjack down at the Velvet Plush Lounge? I should deny myself libations, smooth flavor and my very social life, merely for the sake of physical fitness???

I think this fasting stuff is for the birds. People who fast should be able to smoke cigars and drink whiskey. They should be able to fast hard and play hard. Otherwise, why pay taxes? mad

I've heard drinking alcohol can complicate readings.

Smoking, I'm not so sure about, but as long as you drink liquid I wouldn't worry about it.

biggrin

(It's a load of crap too-I want to be able to drink my paint thinner and get blood work done!)

Drink your dinner edit.

If you eat something light it shouldn't screw you up too much, Anx.

I've had blood work done before and I stuck with water and ate some dry cereal and lighter stuff and it should be fine.

It makes no sense to me though how if you eat they can't read eveyrthing they need to-I personally think they just like fucking with people.

confused

It's not like you're filling a swimming pool and swimming in eclairs happily eating your troubles away.

biggrin

(Not that I'd know anybody like that.)

nothing of the sort! i'm only filling my bathtub with eclairs - or maybe even just my sink, depending on how many i can get from the dunkin donuts store!

i don't need a doctor to tell me i can eat a sink full of pastries and still technically "fast".

Well, if they've asked you to fast for 12 hours, that's supposed to mean you can't eat anything
at all, and shouldn't drink anything but water.

Or...

Just tell 'em that you thought it was like a Muslim Fast (like at Ramadan). Then you can still
eat after sunset (you only have to 'not eat' while it's 'daylight', you can still stuff your face
when the sun's gone down!).

I find that the biggest problem with fasting is that you cant slow down. confused

comfort It's ok, it's only 12 hours. Good luck though.
I just went back to school, I have no appetite, and I have a permeant nervous/axious knot in my stomach, so I've been eating once every 2/3 days. It sucks cause I was dizzy tonight so I ate dinner, and now I'm sick. sad

Actually there are benefits to fasting but obiviously there is a medicial reason for them telling him not to eat before the appointment.

Fasting cleans your system, gets rid of toxins in your body and some do it for spiritual reasons. Just google fasting.

My Vet wants us to take all the food away from our beagle the day before we have to bring her in for bloodwork and tests. She is insanely addicted to food, and goes completely bonkers when we do that to her.
