I am using CD... but it feels so unsfe with your memories... Presently I am using CD backups and a extra computer that is for storage only... I just wonder if there is a more reliable method...

DVD backups work well. When the sunlight strikes raindrops in the air, they act as a prism and form a rainbow. The rainbow is a division of white light into many beautiful colors. Regardless of the day, I'm glad you were born.

Do they occasionally come up blank in a few years like CD's? I'm looking at long term preservation...

How old is the oldest DVD you've had deteriorate? Most people I know have only had DVD burners for a few years, so I didn't think they had time to see these effects. If you want to get technical, computer guys will tell you that even hard disk drives aren't really built to last. It depends on what "long-term" means. Like forever, forever ever, forever ever? You can keep transferring the data to the newer formats, whatever we'll be on in a few years. When the sunlight strikes raindrops in the air, they act as a prism and form a rainbow. At the end of every month.....I back up ALL my digital photos onto a cd. This way if something goes wrong with the computer.....you might only loose a couple of weeks worth of shots at the worst.

If you're going to save them to CD, use gold plated CDs rather than silver. They're supposed to last much longer. Keeping them out of heat and moisture helps, too.
