Star Wars Trilogy DVD Review

Here's a pretty good review of the new Star Wars DVDs. Sounds like some of the changes are good, some really suck, but overall there really aren't that many (thank God!!) Personally, I'm just glad to finally have The Empire Strikes Back on DVD!!

I think a Sith Lord had to have played a mind-trick on a network exec to get a piece of shit like AI on TV! I mean, it has to be an evil plot if it means returning Paula Abdul to the limelight! And Simon??? I agree with Triumph the Insult Dog that he should sue Super-Cuts.

so true. that show is so fucking annoying. would somebody just kill the judges. all three of them make me ill. simon is so overrated, abdul is a fucking moron and that jackson guy needs to take his fat ass to weight watchers.

oh, and the winners? dont even get me started. everyone involved with that show needs to die painful deaths for giving kelly clarkson and clay aiken careers.

I actually don't mind the changes in Jedi. They give pretty good explanations for them. It's weird to see the pics now and then look at Sebastian Shaw's bushy caterpillar eyebrows in the original. Considering what happens to Anakin, it makes sense that his eyebrows are gone. Not sure why they didn't think about it before, but it makes sense to me.

thumbs up!

i like the changes too. though i don't know why they put hayden christensen in the final scene. he was old when he died, like obiwan and yoda, so why not just leave him old in the final scene? i don't get the point of it, other than letting everyone know this was darth vader/anakin skywalker. and if someone doesn't know that already they've been living under a rock somewhere . . .

That's not the part I'm objecting to (the two pictures are together on AICN, so I couldn't post one without the other). I agree that removing the eyebrows is a good idea.

My problem is with the whole "young ghost" Anakin. Its kinda dumb, and really doesn't add anything to it all. Why would Anakin's ghost get all young, but Obi-Wan's would not??? I understand that the Ghosts would appear as Luke knew them, so that explains Obi-Wan, but then why Anakin? Luke never saw him like that!!

nod

I wouldn't have even minded it if they started out old, and then the ghosts morphed into younger versions. As it is, it just makes no sense.

I gotta agree with you on that one!! I don't really have as big of a problem with Clarkson. Her music is pretty much crappy processed pop, but at least she has a decent voice. Aiken on the other hand....

I believe (and I hope I'm quoting him correctly) that Lucas said force ghosts show up as they did when they died. Anakin Skywalker (technically) dies in Ep III which is why his force ghost is now shown as Hayden.

Yeah, yeah, I've heard this one, but I don't buy it. It just seems lame. Vader is redeemed, and thus dies AS Anakin. He should be an old fart like Yoda and Obi-Wan.

technically shmechnically. he came back to life when luke saved him (or when he saved luke) so he should be shown as the old man he was. it's just confusing.

but, i'm gonna stop passing judgment on it till i see it in the new version.
