That is horrible and I am sorry. I lost my cat, Izzy, last year due to another animal killing him... the worst part is that I heard it. Whatever our differeneces, I don't wish this upon anyone and I wish you and your children the best in getting through this.

I'm just devastated. Coyotes got in my yard yesterday during the day and got to her. I am just so sick inside. Being a single mom you feel the head of household responsibility. So I feel like I failed to protect her. The children and I cried till we can't anymore. Now my dads here to help me....

Like a 5 year old I called my father.....

I'm sorry muse. I couldn't image that happening to my dog it would floor me. I hope you feel better soon. It's not your fault and don't put the responsibility on your shoulders.

True. Best bet is for the local authorities to take some sort of action to thin out the populations, but that is always problematic. Of course, you could take matters into your own hands by killing the beasties when they come into your yard, but that opens up a whole other can of worms. It truly sucks, because it becomes very difficult to deal with this kind of thing.

Muse, you have reported this to the authorities, right?? I know you mentioned talking to the Humane Society about it, but my thinking is this: how long until this happens to someone's kid??? When that happens, I guarantee action will be taken, but it will be too late.

I have had 3 seperate officers from the humane society either here or talking to me. Yes, they gave advice...like if we see them we throw something or a stream of water.... So they don't feel so comfortable around humans. They have made a formal report to The City and also another to a activist society that will push the city to trap if it appears that they have a greater risk problem growing. I inquired about the kid thing over and over..... As it were traditionally they will not take interest but they advise small children are not left alone. Mind you this all said I am in the center of a bedroom community not a rural area. I just didn't see it as an issue for the area as a city dweller...

Well, I can completely understand why it wouldn't occur to you that you would have to deal with this in a suburban area. I went through similar stuff when I lived in San Antonio. I always had skunks, opossums and other varmits sitting on my door step. I was always concerned to be walking my dogs with that kind of thing around.

As for their advisement that small children not be left alone...WTF???? Its YOUR FRIGGIN' BACKYARD!!! I dunno, but something about that really pisses me off! Your children and animals should be able to play in their own backyard without fear.

Back in the day, my dad would chase off varmits with his pellet gun. Rarely harmed them, but it did scare the bejessus out of them!! I never saw any of them return. Its probably illegal now, but there has to be some way to deter them (I dunno about the water thing. Maybe if you have one of those "gun nozzles" for your hose)

Turns out my dog is the victim of a serial killer.... Felicia was the 8th dog in that coyotes string of homicides. The 3rd that day.
I am presently listening to my neighbors pellet gun practice..... I don't know what is more disconcerting..... I think it is unsafe around children as is the beasts.....
