can they digitally remove jar jar?

lol

Well, I've never hated Jar Jar nearly as much as most folks. I didn't find him half as annoying as the Ewoks!

im with you on that one. actually, jar jar gets way too bad a rap. sure, hes only in the first one for the kiddies, but it makes sense. there needed to be something a little bit light hearted before it got into the clone wars and the fall of anakin.

of course, jar jar IS ultimately responsible for the fall of the republic!!

I actually like most of the changes that have been made to the movies.

There are a couple of obvious exceptions though...
The young Anakin ghost... (just makes no sense)
and Greedo still shoots first... (goddammit!)

Other than that everything's pretty good.
The picture quality's just amazing, and the updating of a lot of the lightsaber effects is a
welcome addition. As is a few minor details like the renaming of the 'tractor beam' controls.
Plus I loved the new Vader / Emperor hologram conversation in Empire, that was a very
welcome change.

All the reviews seem to be making a really big deal over how sparkling clear and pristine the movies look, so I'm looking foward to that. Especially A New Hope. nod

I'm fairly certain Clay IS an Ewok!!!

Actually, I felt that the Ewoks benefitted from the Special Edition, by removing that annoying "Yub Yub" song. Giving them an earthier, more medieval, celebration song really helped bring the film back in line with the first two, and made the Ewoks less "Sesame Street"-ish. I think the biggest problem with them (and ROTJ in general) was that the tone kept shifting from a great, galactic civil war to a kiddie movie (TPM suffers the same problem, only its much more even on the whole. Its never as good as the good stuff in ROTJ, but it does maintain itself a little better thematically).

I have heard that Clay is planning a remix of the "Yub Yub" song for his next album!

Totally agree! Some of these changes are fantastic!!! The Vader/Emporer scene is a DRASTIC improvement, and firmly cements ESB as the greatest film of the series. In my opinion, they just fixed the ONE flaw the film had.

Renaming the tractor beam, fixing the lightsaber effects and removing Luke's girly scream are all welcome changes. In fact most of them are pretty darned good. I just think of these as "Director's cuts" and I'm happy. I DO wish they'd release the original cuts, if only for my Posterity.

Now, as for Anakin's ghost and Greedo shooting first.....total BS! Not a single fan likes Greedo shooting first, and few are diggin' Hayden being inserted as a ghost. Still, if this is the price we pay for the "fixed" ESB, then its all good as far as I'm concerned.

From what I've heard, the scene actually plays much better. Now that the giggle-inducing scream is gone, the scene has even more dramatic weight.

Maybe I'm a lil' out of it, but what's the big deal with Greedo shooting first? confuse
I'm trying to remember this scene, but it's kinda spotty. Did Lucas make Greedo shoot first to make Han seem less callous?

1. nod and lol TOTALLY AGREE!!! I was denying it myself for the longest time, and I was pretty sure it was a hoax (the pic on Aint It Cool was certainly a photo-shop job. It just happened to be a photo-shop job of an actual change!!!) Ugh!

2. Well, it was funny and all, but I'm kinda glad its gone. The film is so damned-near perfect, and I'm all about them removing any little blemish like this. (Hell, this is the film with the fewest changes period, because it really didn't need many. IT FREAKING ROCKS!!!!

Yes. Lucas felt that it appeared that Han was killing Greedo in cold-blood, and that wasn't how a hero should act.

Of course, I feel this is BS. Han is a rogue who looks out for #1. He fries Greedo because he knows that he will be killed himself if he doesn't. This also, in my opinion, takes away from Han's return to the Death Star at the end. Han BECOMES a hero, because the words of Luke and Leia sink in.

It also ruins the whole "western" feel of the scene. The whole planet of Tatooine has a sort of "OK Corral in space" thing going, and Han is very much the Clint Eastwood type character. His showdown with Greedo is the sci-fi equivilant of the showdown at high-noon. By having Greedo shoot first, it loses this IMHO.

From what I've read, they've made adjustments to all the lightsabers so that they have a certain unity in appearance.

Indeed! And it was YEARS before I caught that!! I had the crappy pan & scan VHS tapes for so long, and you really can't see it on those. I was at a friends house when the laser discs came out, and we both just HOWLED at that!!

Another thing I just noticed is that they've replaced Boba Fett's voice.
He now sounds like Temuera Morrison.

It also looks like they've smoothed out some of the effects that were added when the special
editions first came out too. The Ronto's and extra stuff at Mos Eisley all seem more 'real' and
blended in better with the old footage (though it might just be my imagination).

And yes, all the lightsaber effects look more consistent.
(no more 'broomhandles' either).

Does Han still grab Leia's breast right after she gets shot in the arm on Endor?

Does Oola still "fall out" of her dancing costume before she falls through the floor to the Rancor?
