Werner Herzog and "The Truth About Loch Ness"

Has anyone heard about this?

http://truthaboutlochness.com/

Apparently, Werner Herzog (a famous German director who did a bunch of films with Klaus Kinski, including "Aguirre Wrath of God", "Nosferatu" and "Fitzcarraldo") did a documentary in which he went out in search of the Loch Ness Monster. At the same time, a documentarian did a documentary on Werner Herzog doing a documentary.

The results were less than pretty.

What I'm wondering is, is this "documentary of a documentary" thing a hoax or for real? Werner Herzog is just loopy enough to stage this as a cinematic prank, but if things got ugly, it would be totally believable - this is a man who got Klaus Kinski so mad at him, he had to force Kinski to finish a film by filming him at gunpoint.

Fake or real, the film should be a hoot. Herzog is always a riot when he's in front of the cameras...

I know the film has been screened, but I don't know if it will ever be distributed. I DID hear that the documentarian who was filming Herzog caught Nessie on film...and that apparently it's a very odd photo. In other words....it could be REAL.

I love Herzog. He's one of cinema's great madmen. And I adored him in "Julien Donkey Boy." I eternally quote his Dirty Harry monologue.

I do too! "Are you listening, grandmama?" lol

But my favorite part is when he's hosing that poor kid down and giving his speech on being a winner. "No moody brooders!"

As for the new documentary, out here at my local Chicago arthouse multiplex, it's on the schedule for this fall...at least Herzog's film is, anyway. confused

I'm a big fan of "Aguirre Wrath of God". I've been meaning to check out more of his stuff. I had that "Kinski is my best friend" on my Amazon wish list for about the last three years lol I really need to pick that up!

Did you see the documentary on the making of "Fitzcarraldo" ? lol

Oooh, the Kinski documentary, "My Best Fiend", is a MUST-HAVE. It's one of the funniest, weirdest, saddest, and most charming documentaries I've ever seen. It's also a really good primer for all the movies Herzog and Kinski did together.
