Doctors that speak your language badly

So I'm meeting my new psychiatrist in just over an hour, and his Swedish isn't very good, I know from having heard his voice on the phone. I know that doesn't mean he won't understand ME, but I have to understand him as well confused My psychologist will be there as well fortunately, and she's told me to ask him to speak slower and articulate more if I don't understand him but that just seems... I dunno, rude I suppose.
Have any of you met someone in an official environment that doesn't speak your language very well? I'm really not looking forward to spilling my guts to a person when I might not understand the questions he asks me boxed

And in case somebody does ask, a psychiatrist is a m.d. and a psychologist is a therapist.

Hebrew is not my first language so if i'm hiring a lawyer who doesn't speak clearly, I warn them about it and then on the next infraction I fire them on the spot.

sigh This pisses me off. I've been for two psychiatric evaluations in my life, and both times the psychiatrist was an Asian man who could hardly speak any English. And the second time the man who asks health questions and takes blood pressure and whatever was from Africa. I couldn't understand anything he asked. pissed

This used to frustrate me a lot. Now that I've been working "in the field" for a few years, though, and have been exposed more consistently to people who speak my language as a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc language, I've grown a lot more tolerant.

It would be uniquely hard, though, to have that language barrier with a mental health provider. I would just be worried that the doc was misunderstanding me because of my use of slang, etc. Then again my use of slang confuses MOST people so this situation wouldn't be THAT different smile

Health Care systems never cease to amaze me....

It is important that he actually does understand the context of what you say, apart from the

words. ....

If you aren't happy with him ask for someone else...You have rights.....

Though I'm sure I don,t need to mention all this...so I'll shut up boxed

lol It was like when I had come home from hospital with my ruptured spleen, and I got fluid in my lung... went to the local healthcare and a southamerican male doctor proceeded to ask me questions. I told him my spleen had been ruptured 2 weeks ago, and that it was still inside in a bag to heal it. Then he concentrated on asking me 10 questions about my period rolleyes pissed They drained 2½ pints out of my left lung in the ER later mad

confuse I'm puzzled here. What does your period have to do with your ruptured spleen? I don't get the connection at all. confuse

Good luck to you, I hope everything works out with the doctor. hug
RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.
