Phoning work to say ur sick.......

i had to do this the other day.....

I phoned Tesco (a Uk based food shopping store) and damn was the duty manager I was on the phone to rude to me 4 not being able to go into work! I understand that alot of teenagers fake being ill or r dealing with hangovers from night before, but I honestly was sick in the night on morning (my shift was 1pm-10pm) and guy was so damn rude.....

asking me rudely:-

1) Why r u sick?
2) When were u sick?
3) If u were sick only an hour ago, then u can come into work then can't u?
4) If u r sick then y not call a doctor? (U do not go to a doctor 4 a tummy bug u fucking moron!)
5) U dont sound sick? (just because I can talk normally does not mean i feel well.....next time i will put on a fake 'sick' voice and then I'll be accused of faking it.....)

Hey, anyone else relate to this? I hear Tesco superstores r the worst in Britain 4 this? I understand they maybe a bit annoyed and r just doing their job BUT I know my duty manager i was on the phone to and I expected him to believe me and not be rude to me like i was some stranger!

Oh by the way, U urself MUST make the call.....as if that will make any difference!

When I used to work Fast Food we were almost required to do this to the people who called out, even though we knew an owner who had lost all four of his stores when an employee called out sick and was badgered into coming in - turned out the guy had samonella, the resulting lawsuits cost the guy everything.

The human resource director of my new job told us at orientation that it is illegal to ask a person why they are calling out, don't actually know the law myself, but they havn't bothered me the times I called out.

If you are an otherwise good worker you should give it right back to the guy. So many companys will hand out this crap and then hold meetings about how everyone needs to be a team player.

Exactly, I told my man to go to lunch and order something that he usually wouldn't, then later start to complain about feeling ill.....and be vocal to co-workers wink

As a scheduler for last-minute "sick calls", I hope you all try alot harder to work your scheduled shift and recoup when you're not working (YES YOUR TIME OFF, HOW ABOUT THAT).
