2000 and every two years twice before that. i had one every time i was pregnant with each of my 3kids. the first time i was scared because i knew i had not been careful in the past. the other two times they did it without telling me. but i would taken the tests anyway for the sake of my kids. would i be scared to take it again? no. i know more now.

3 times since 1999. They test you as a matter of routine when you are pregnant, as well as for HepB, rubella, syphilis, anaemia etc. It's a good thing.

every sexually active person, no matter of relationship status should have an HIV test every 6 months. Sexually active gay men should also get a flu shot once a year, hep a, b & c shots twice a year as well as the full gammet of std tests when u get your HIV tests done. Or so muh doctor tells me. woot! Play safe or don't play at all.

I'm confused. confuse First of all, my understanding is that there is currently no Hepatitis C vaccine available (source: webmd.com). That's part of what makes Hep C so scary.

Second, I've been vaccinated against Hepatitis B. It's not a single shot--rather, you get three shots over a period of six months. And my doctor told me that once you've received the entire series, it is believed that you're protected indefinitely.

The at home mail in test really is the best way as to avoid an appointment and having to deal with anyone in person.

True, although the at-home tests (at least, the ones available in the U.S.) cost about $45 at a minimum. When I lived in Indianapolis, the local health department offered free, anonymous HIV testing. As I recall, I was asked to make up a pseudonym for signing the required paperwork, and I was otherwise identified solely by a number. They never asked for my real name.

The anonymous clinic did require that you receive your results in-person; however, when I called to ask if the results were back from the lab, the employee's tone of voice suggested that everything was fine, so I was pretty sure going in that I tested negative.
