Darn me!!! Darn me... darn me... darn me...

I just received a call for a Kindergarten position that has a high percentage of Spanish speaking children. They wanted to know if I was ESL Endorsed or working toward it. pout I don't know Spanish, I don't speak Spanish... even while I grew up in a Spanish speaking home. I am kicking myself hard...

I did take Spanish in college... and I could not pass it at the time, Spanish just does not stick. cry I have even been practicing with the Spanish speaking workers at work... they laugh at me so hard, but they are so patient and helpful.

I feel I just had a job offer and it slip out of my hands just like that... because I don't know Spanish and I feel I should by now. sad

That's it!!! I am going to be aggressive starting now. I have been taking all this with stride... not really ready to end my job at the hospital... although I feel it is high time to get myself out there. I know I am highly qualified, although I also know... teaching is one profound responsibility... I have been there before. heart

Can someone/anyone teach me Spanish? wilted

I am still kicking myself... I am going to kick myself off this computer... lol I just hung with that conversation about 10 minutes ago. I can't believe it... although it has only been a week since I turned in that application so that is promising I suppose to gain a call already. When I took my Proficiency Exam... I could not believe my eyes to how many people were becoming Certified to teach.

There is not a teacher shortage (that is a lie), there is a shortage in funds to hire teachers... now is that just incredibly sad and just plain sick.

Beautiful day all. rose I will return... although I am a bit hyper to get something done today, since I have it off. Even if I get a Spanish CDROM and begin some lessons of my own.

Darn me...err

No... I am going to visit some schools, thumbs up! my resume is all ready.

hug's, kiss2 to you all...

Just try and talk spanish with your co-workers, even iff they take the piss. Try to watch spanish TV (I remember Spanish Soccer was always a good channel lol) you will get a much better understanding of the langauge that way than from tapes and CD ROMs. Then take an accredited course at the same time to bung on your CV.

You will make an excellent teacher one day, you know it.

Hang in there, babe! I know how hard the language thing is. One day you're learning it and it's just all words...then one day...BANG...it all comes together and you actually understand it. Before you know it, you'll be dreaming in Spanish smile
I do recommend the CDs...(ROM or stuff to listen to in the car) and definitely take some classes. I'm sure adult ed in your area offers them smile

I know how you feel. More than once in Spain AND in Mexico, people said to me, "Your name is Garcia, and you don't speak Spanish???" They were shocked and apalled. My parents are native Spanish speakers. When they grew up, they got in trouble for speaking Spanish at school. By brother, sister, and I grew up speaking only English. It's one of my, and my parents', greatest regrets. I too, have missed opportunities because I don't speak Spanish.

Anyway Julie, don't wallow in it. This job wasn't the one for you. But do use the frustration to take steps to learn the language -- if you really want to. If not, move on, and keep your eyes on the job that is right for you. I know, as you do, that is out there.

I love you. rose And I went around the world in a day today. I went to two different schools, one Montessori and I believe one is a Charter school called Franklin Arts Academy... I drive by both all the time. A friend of mine that I use to work with at the Dobson Montessori Schools is working at the Montessori School I visited today, although she was in class. rose I left my resume and cover letter at both locations.

I picked up two more applications from two different Districts (there are so many districts here), will turn them in by Friday. And... I might get a part-time job at a photography store doing lab work, my best friend manages the store. Sometimes it is all about connection and a lot of times it is simply by charm. wink
