Hurricane Frances Are any of you yourselves or do any of you have loved ones who are in the path of Hurricane Frances?
I spoke with my sister, who is in the path of the storm, tonight and she and my niece are scared to death. They are native Michiganians amd have never experienced anything like this before. The storm is a level-four hurricane (strongest is level five and it may reach that) and is supposed to be stronger than Hurricane Andrew.

OMG that's scary we are SOOOOO sheltered here in Australia in this way - we get droughts, floods etc but no earthquakes, hurricanes etc like you do in the U.S.

Up here in the north we really don't have to worry about hurricanes. We get the after-effects after the storm has broken up...and of course there are tornados and the winter storms here. But, down in the south they get hit hard.

No, she can't leave...it's too late. She, my niece my nephew and all their pets are trapped down there now. My brother-in-law is at their house up here (he owns a business up here and goes back and forth between here and Florida.) I was trying to get her to drive here (it takes about 24 hours with no stopping) but, she won't.

We also get bushfires as bad as anywhere in the world. Every year the north, especially northwest, of Australia is battered by cyclones but it is not anywhere near as densely populated as Florida. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

Well...she just started a new job a few days ago..plus her back was out and she had to go to the chiropractor. By the time she got all of that finished...the government suggested that everyone stay put where they are and wait out the storm. Plus, she and my nephew have to board up the house and stuff. There is a shelter down the street at my niece's school. Personally, I think she's insane and I would have gotten my butt back up to Michigan in a second. My mom and one of my other sisters and I were talking about this tonight. But, that's what she's chosen to do. I'm going to kill her myself when I see her! [Edited 9/1/04 23:47pm]

Lets hope anyway. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.

My best to you and your family applekisses. Hang in there! My aunt moved back here (Dallas, TX area) from Hollywood, Florida this year, so she really lucked out. She still has friends down there so she's worried. Hopefully it won't be as bad as it's been-never know. I like to think it gets worse before it gets better, hopefully your family's under the better category.
