I have trouble with double letters... I put them in when they shouldn't be there and I don't when they should. For the longest time I would write "writting" and "writen", wait is that the right way?

I spell it "excersize"...then "exersize"...then "excercise"...and on and on... Until I finally get it right...(sheesh) Occasionally I misspell "Received", switching the "i" and the "e"... I probably mispelled "misspell" also... Too lazy to look it up. What words, if any, do you always seem to mispell?? (or misspell...whichever) OMG "excercise" (sp?) is one of the worst! So is "necessary" -- once I think I have spelled it wrong and decide to go back and see if I can figure it out on my own, I am lost forever! I always wind up looking it up! co-sign on the "necessary"

There are no spelling problems in Spanish. What you write is what you read.
Once you learn the rules you could read the Quixote without understanding a word but with a perfect pronounciation. Unlike English. You can never be sure how to pronounce a word when you first see it. I still remember when I read in class slaughter pronounced as laughter. Everybody laughed at me.

Cool topic! I'm pretty good with spelling myself. My mother is an English minor and a schoolteacher, and I did the geeky spelling bee thing when I was in elementary school -- a long, long, long, LONG time ago...
...wait a minute -- what was I talking about before I started to get depressed? Oh yeah, I remember. I'm not so anal that I feel a need to correct people's spelling (though I am really hard on myself when I misspell a word). It doesn't really bother me that much -- certainly not nearly as much as an absence of punctuation. People will occasionally post lots of content without so much as a comma or period. Makes for very difficult reading... I'm surprised no one has mentioned definitely -- that's got to be the word that is misspelled most often. Oh yeah -- stretch and conscience, too -- and surprise, for that matter. Someone mentioned interchanging "to" and "too". Equally as common is the interchanging of "their", "there" and "they're". No big deal; I know what people are trying to say (usually). I was raised in Cincinnati, so I don't have much difficulty spelling that word these days. Otherwise, it would be a bit tricky.

Easy - the noun, 'practice', has the noun, 'ice' in it, whereas the verb 'practise' has the verb 'is' in it. . ALT+PLS+RTN: Pure as a pane of ice. It's a gift.

Just came across another one..."Caress"...or, I should say, "Carress"...one "r" or two??...
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Oh, and "Phenomenal"... All those different vowels...sheesh...I can never remember if it's one "e" or two...if the second "e" is actually supposed to be an "i"...if the "a" is really supposed to be an "o"...
I will be in trouble when I want to say "I give the most phenomenal caresses.." [Edited 9/6/04 13:08pm]
