Does anyone remember this from the 80's? There were five mini movies (approx. 20-30 minutes each) by Stephen King based off of some old comic books. I happened to be flipping through the channels this past weekend and they showed all 5 back to back on the Sci Fi channel. I remember being in school and one of my favorites teachers would bring in Creep Show for us to watch in the auditorium once our work was complete as a treat. Following were the five episodes:



They're Creeping Up On You
The cockroach one where the doctor stayed in this all white house and he started off with one roach and they took over his house, they were everywhere. I remember I never ate another bowl of Raisin Bran cereal after watching this movie, it freaked me out for life.

Father's Day
The next story was called Father's Day and all I remembered from childhood is some guy coming to the front door with somebody's head on a platter with candles saying "Where Is My Cake".

The Lonesome Death of Jordy Verrill
There was a story where ths guy went outside and touched a meteor (sp?) and all of sudden he started growing this green grass type stuff all over him and it was growing all over his house and in his drink etc. He went to go take a bath and his dead father appeared in the bathroom mirror and said it he touched water he would die...

The Crate
The one with the guy whose wife was a nag (for lack of a better word) and he kept having thoughts of killing her. This one is called the crate, some type of monster was in it and it killed people.

Something to Tide You Over
There was one with Ted Danson where he was on a beach and buried up to his neck in sand and was forced to watch a TV with his girlfriend who was also buried up to her neck with the waves of water slowly drowning her. The guy left Ted Danson on the beach and watched him from home on live video suffering etc. because his wife cheated on him with Ted's character, this was his revenge.

Was Creep Show the movie where those goofy white teens went to the lake and that black yucky stuff was in the water? I love that one because at the end, that one guy thought he would just swim back to shore since all his friends were killed by the "stuff". The idiot made it all the way back to shore, but then he just sat there at the edge of the water.....and the "stuff" got him anyway! Hilarious!

Well, I never saw the movie based on it, so I'm not sure what that was called. But the story is from a from one of his short story collections, called "Skeleton Crew".

So Skeleton Crew is a book? If so, then maybe he just did a short based on it and put it in a Creepshow film, because I'm pretty sure that's where it's from. I can't read SK books.....too creepy.

The Mist? Yeah, I love that one, but it ends so bleakly. I always want to know what happens to them, but it just ends. You just know they get eaten by some giant octopus or something at some point.

I loved that story!!!...It made me want to read more SK.. And yeah, the entire part in the supermarket was great, the way the giant bug-octopus-thingamajiggers (whatever they were) would slam into the glass trying to get at them...lol..and I loved the bleak ending, letting your mind imagine some way they could have survived, if the mist had taken over the entire planet yet, etc, etc...Great read.

Someone does remember this, I just realized there was a Creepshow 2 that came out in 1987 but I don't remember it. I think Creepshow came on HBO because cable was'nt available yet in all areas, just the HBO equipment that was installed on top of the roof on your home.

Has anyone read "Needful Things" by Stephen King? I bought it from a bookstore that was closing for dirt cheap. I've never read any of his books because I was chicken. I thought I would take a chance. Is this book very scary? I have'nt started to read it yet.

I love Creepshow and I looooove Stephen King!!!!!



(although his last few books in recent years I just can't seem to get into like his older stuff )

Anybody who enjoys SK and who hasn't read it yet, I *HIGHLY* suggest you checking out the book 'The Bachman Books' that SK wrote under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. It's a collection of four novellas and one of my absolute favorites....The Long Walk, imo, is one of his best stories ever. Very absorbing.

I think my favorite actual SK novel is 'The Stand', followed by 'The Talisman' but his short story collections especially KICK ASS.

I wouldn't necessarily call it "scary" because I think that's a misconception that people have about S.K. His earliest books were obviously horror stories, but through the years he's gotten more complex than that, "The Stand" (one of his best ever) being one example. "Needful Things" is a story about a small town in Maine (a frequent backdrop in many of his books) and a mysterious man that opens shop there. It's a really fascinating tale that really focuses mainly on all the town's inhabitants, and how they can turn on one another. Anyway, I would read it. Stephen King is an amazing storyteller.

Talk about freaking me out. I so agree with looking at all five in 2004, they're not scary at all. The other one that freaked me out then and freaks me out now is the one about the roaches...I hate bugs, they give me the creeps....seeing that man's chest explode at the end with all those roaches coming out and seeing roaches in his cereal etc. did it for me ..I haven't eaten raisin bran cereal/raisins since.

I saw this many many years ago. I bought it on DVD not too long ago from the WalMart bargin bin for $5.50.

oh no...you actually found that scene from Father's Day lol...so funny, I saw it at Walmart too in a bin with a ton of other cheap DVD's but I decided not to buy it because I was afraid ...but after I saw it over the weekend on the Sci Fi channel I realized it wasn't as bad as I thought...that was the first time I had seen it since I was a kid.
