One of my brothers is a bit slow...nothing wrong with that, but he doesn't use his
common sense, drinks too much, is WAY overweight, and has a tendency to find
trouble.

How funny, I was just discussing this very topic with a friend before I logged on. Anyway, the disfunctional person in my family is my uncle Miguel. I think he is bipolar.....or just plan nuts. He is also, for some very odd reason, my grandmothers favorite. I think it's because he is the only on of her 6 children who need her. He's always asking for money, like he's a kid.....he's 38....and he's always looking for a ride somewhere. He's in and out of jail so often that the police know him by name! He's the person in the family who can clear a room in 2.5 seconds!

we can go with my grandmother who has her sons so terrified of emotion that they have a hard time addressing ANYTHING.....


I'll go with my heroin addicted cousin and her family....they at least make holidays interesting

I think my family functions pretty well. But they'd probably all say that I am, if not dysfunctional, at least really really eccentric.

I think that if the term family is used widely, to include aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins and your uncle's second wife's nephew's mother, then the reasoning about just one dysfunctional family member can be true..... to YOU. However, I believe that that person's close family will become dysfunctional if they weren't to begin with, because dysfunctionality is a spreading "disease"

Examples to illustrate what I mean: I am dysfunctional now because of the parents I grew up with. My dad is because his mother beat him with the thingy you whack carpets with, and his dad already was dysfunctional before that. My dad's brother (my uncle), however has a great family with no weird people in it whatsoever. Ergo, my uncle's children have an uncle who's dysfunctional but their immediate family is not.

Mind you...I had to go get my mother to tell her that her nieces where fighting....so now you have me...my mom and my drunk cousin....who now wants to fight her husband who was in the basement and who also is an addict....he comes upstairs...and she starts into him....Ok...this whole time...I'm cuz this was some Jerry Springer shit.....once the husband gets up the stairs..she fights him...Then her brother comes in the kitchen...he gets made at her....and starts to grab her...and throws her down the stairs....well..you would think that would be over....NOPE...she walks up the stairs..and starts fighting with the brother.....I'm trying to keep my aunt, their mother for getting into....(but I'm still crackin' up)....finally, I can't hold my aunt any longer.....she is pissed...and she is one scary mofo when she's pissed....she goes in the kitchen...and punches the fuck out of my cousin...the cousin just falls to the floor....doesn't get knocked out...but keeps saying..."that bitch took my $$$".....

Ok..what I need to say is that these are my OLDER cousins....the drunk cousin is 51 years old.....my aunt is in her 70's. It was the most insane Christmas ever...but both me and my mother were in tears...cuz all through the beat down...my cousin kept saying..."that bitch took my $$".....

I know that some will view this as sad but this has been my cousins life....from 5 pregnancies as a teen (some aborted some miscarried)....three baby daddies with the three she had.....she shot up drugs with the second child....she stole money from great aunt...blah, blah, blah....and yet this same woman was a model in the midwest...modeled for Ebony mag....won many beauty contests.....and is very smart.....she still gives the best ass beauty tips...she's the only that taught me about skin care and how to do my eyebrows...but she is insane....her kids are insane....but they're family.
