After five years on the air Bell's audience was still growing, but on October 13, 1998, he suddenly and mysteriously announced the end of his broadcasting career. Two weeks later he just as mysteriously returned to the air and resumed his broadcasts, only to retire from broadcasting in April 2000. When Bell returned to the air in 2001, he explained that he had taken time to deal with personal family matters. At the end of 2002 Bell retired again, but said he would continue to fill in on occasion for new host George Noory. Phil Hendrie is tired. How many times can you listen to silly callers that can't figure out that the "guests" are Phil talking to himself. 
Some of the characters are funny (Steve Bosell, Margaret Grey, Bud Dickman). But it gets old quick. tA Tribal Disorder

7-10pm is rough for AM talkradio in L.A. You either got Phil Hendrie on KFI or Al Rantel on KABC.
On FM, Tom Leykis is on 97.1 KLSX. Once the sun goes down, if you've got decent AM reception, check out Gene Burns on KGO 810 out of Northern Cali. tA Tribal Disorder
