THE CELESTINE PROPHECY... 
This was the very first book in the "Celestine Prophecy" series...James and Sally Redfield went on to publish... THE CELESTINE PROPHECY THE CELESTINE PROPHECY - AN EXPERIENTIAL GUIDE THE TENTH INSIGHT - HOLDING THE VISION THE TENTH INSIGHT - AN EXPERIENTIAL GUIDE THE SECRET OF SHAMBHALA - IN SEARCH OF THE ELEVENTH INSIGHT The books are based on "insights" into life, spirtuality and the way we percieve life and each other - they are told in "story" format but they hold some of the most powerful of life's lessons 
Here are the 11 insights so far... 1. A Critical Mass A new spiritual awakening is occurring in human culture, an awakening brought about by a critical mass of individuals who experience their lives as a spiritual unfolding, a journey in which we are led forward by mysterious coincidences. 2. The Longer Now This awakening represents the creation of a new, more complete worldview, which replaces a five-hundred-year-old preoccupation with secular survival and comfort. While this technological preoccupation was an important step, our awakening to life's coincidences is opening us up to the real purpose of human life on this planet, and the real nature of our universe. 3. A Matter Of Energy We now experience that we live not in a material universe, but in a universe of dynamic energy. Everything extant is a field of sacred energy that we can sense and intuit. Moreover, we humans can project our energy by focusing our attention in the desired direction...where attention goes, energy flows...influencing other energy systems and increasing the pace of coincidences in our lives. 4.The Struggle For Power Too often humans cut themselves off from the greater source of this energy and so feel weak and insecure. To gain energy we tend to manipulate or force others to give us attention and thus energy. When we successfully dominate others in this way, we feel more powerful, but they are left weakened and often fight back. Competition for scarce, human energy is the cause of all conflict between people. 5. The Message Of The Mystics Insecurity and violence ends when we experience an inner connection with divine energy within, a connection described by mystics of all traditions. A sense of lightness - buoyancy - along with the constant sensation of love are measures of this connection. If these measures are present, the connection is real. If not, it is only pretended. 6. Clearing The Past The more we stay connected, the more we are acutely aware of those times when we lose connection, usually when we are under stress. In these times, we can see our own particular way of stealing energy from others. Once our manipulations are brought to personal awareness, our connection becomes more constant and we can discover our own growth path in life, and our spiritual mission - the personal way we can contribute to the world. 7. Engaging The Flow Knowing our personal mission further enhances the flow of mysterious coincidences as we are guided toward our destinies. First we have a question; then dreams, daydreams, and intuitions lead us towards the answers, which usually are synchronistically provided by the wisdom of another human being. 8. The Interpersonal Ethic We can increase the frequency of guiding coincidences by uplifting every person that comes into our lives. Care must be taken not to lose our inner connection in romantic relationships. Uplifting others is especially effective in groups where each member can feel energy of all the others. With children it is extremely important for their early security and growth. By seeing the beauty in every face, we lift others into their wisest self, and increase the chances of hearing a synchronistic message. 9. The Emerging Culture As we all evolve toward the best completion of our spiritual missions, the technological means of survival will be fully automated as humans focus instead on synchronistic growth. Such growth will move humans into higher energy states, ultimately transforming our bodies into spiritual form and uniting this dimension of existence with the after-life dimension, ending the cycle of birth and death. 10. Holding The Vision The Tenth Insight is the realization that throughout history human beings have been unconsciously struggling to implement this lived spirituality on Earth. Each of us comes here on assignment, and as we pull this understanding into consciousness, we can remember a fuller birth vision of what we wanted to accomplish with our lives. Further we can remember a common world vision of how we will all work together to create a new spiritual culture. We know that our challenge is to hold this vision with intention and prayer everyday. 11. Extending Prayer Fields The Eleventh Insight is the precise method through which we hold the vision. For centuries, religious scriptures, poems, and philosophies have pointed to a latent power of mind within all of us that mysteriously helps to affect what occurs in the future. It has been called faith power, positive thinking, and the power of prayer. We are now taking this power seriously enough to bring a fuller knowledge of it into public awareness. We are finding that this prayer power is a field of intention, which moves out from us and can be extended and strengthened, especially when we connect with others in a common vision. This is the power through which we hold the vision of a spiritual world and build the energy in ourselves and in others to make this vision a reality. The Twelfth Insight is yet to be released... | |

I was given a signed copy of the first one as a gift about 8 years ago. It's got some interesting ideas, but it's not really my thing. Also, I just didn't like the author's writing style. But, like I said, there are some interesting ideas in there.  |

I think The Celestine Prophecy is pure crap. Sorry to all the book's fans (and I know you're out there) but contrary to the author's claims, mankind is clearly NOT overturning any new leaves or experiencing any new awakenings. We continue to do the same stupid shit generation after generation, leaving the Earth in worse shape than before. And Bush is now ahead of Kerry in the polls....does THIS look like we're growing smarter? | |

yes the first book was published quite a few years ago now...there are many good books around to read - another good one I'd recommend is called "Way of the Peaceful Warrior" I'm from Sydney Australia | |

I pretty much agree with most of the comments on this thread. Personally, I think the Celestine Prophesy is a really badly written book with some very good ideas. I think I've probably bought about 12 copies of it so far - in the past every time I met somebody who seemed interested in the book I gave them my copy and bought another one. I don't particularly want to line James Redfields pockets any more so now I recommend to people to borrow a copy from somewhere - there's plenty floating about, and (not to sound cynical or anything) Mr. Redfield has confirmed my worst fears, ignored all his own ideas and decided the only goal worth pursuing is wealth - hence the 10th insight, the useless 'experiential' guides, and now, as if we couldn't see through the bullshit by now, we have The Secret of Shambollox - In Search of The Rest of Your Money.
The first book is the ONLY one of the series worth picking up (I have them all except the latest one - Redfield has enough of my cash already) and if anyone is tempted to read it you'll need to ignore the bad writing style and concentrate on the ideas themselves. Also, if your plan is to just read the book to see what it’s about - don't bother, you'll just end up with the impression that you've wasted a few hours of your life reading a very badly written book with a few interesting ideas. You have to LIVE the book as you're reading it. Try out each of the insights as you're reading and apply them to your life. Do not read the book in one go, but treat each chapter (or 'insight') as separate experiments, and give each one a week or a few days at least to apply to your life. Interestingly, when I experimented with (I think) the second insight, about coincidences, I started to take note of all the coincidences that regularly take place around me. I wouldn't suggest that the book changed my life particularly, but because I was paying more attention to coincidence at the time, some really bizarrely freaky coincidences started happening to me (or, more likely, I started noticing them for the first time). I also had an interesting (and successful) time experimenting with the (3rd ?) insight about energy fields, however I would warn you that constantly squinting at people in an attempt to see their aura can earn you the label 'weirdo'. The (4th ?) insight about power was interesting, but really it’s just a simplified and incorrect model of the enneagram, and most of the rest of the insights were just guff (it's a while since I read it so there may be more of value in the book than I'm giving it credit for). So there you have it - if you're willing to put a bit of time into trying out the ideas in the book, you will probably find it interesting and you might get something positive out of it - I know a few people who say it has had a positive effect on their lives - in that respect I guess it's just like any good self-help book with positive ideas that can be easily applied to your life. Do not expect this book to have a dramatic effect on your life though, because it won't, it has some interesting ideas to try out and that's about it. Don't be taken in by the bullshit, as Case said earlier in the thread humankind have not experienced any 'new awakening', and nor are we likely to. This book is what it is - a nice (but badly written) story with a few good ideas written by someone whose primary reason for sharing his ideas is to make money. And if I sound cynical, for those of you who have read them, you'll remember that in the first book there is mention of a lost 10th insight, priming you for volume two of The Cashmaking Prophesy. And that's all there was supposed to be - just 10 insights. Then the experiential guides came out - a total waste of paper (and your money and time if you buy and read them). Methinks James got greedy, hence the secret 11th insight that nobody knew existed until he made it up. I guess it must be time to think about the kids college fund, or maybe he needs to bump up the pension plan a bit, because surprise, surprise, there is now to be a 12th insight. Where will it all end ? I think I feel an insight coming on.... Lemmy, Bowie, Prince, Leonard. RIP. |

I too agree with the comments above about it being a badly written book with some good ideas. LOL I have all of the books I get them as a gifts each and every single year for my birthday. My name is Celestine and some of the fools I mean folks I work with like to "joke" me about the book sigh..idiots.... Or the decent ones give me the book thinking I have never seen it before in my life.. sigh | |
