$5 , GLORIA, and a new friend! (random act of kindness) Less than an hour to go, I threw on a pair of jeans, a t-shirt, jumped into my car and headed down to the venue where the one and only GLORIA ESTEFAN was going to be performing. I for some strange reason thought the show was tomorrow. Had it not been for a news report. I would've missed one of my all time favourite performers. I made it to the venue in about 15-20 mins. So, with no ticket still; I parked my car across the street and prayed that it wasn't sold out. I thought I'll just buy the cheapest ticket possible. With about 3 minutes before show time; as I briskly am making my way to the box office, a scalper asked if I wanted to buy a ticket. "No thanks." I said. Then not more than 5 steps later a woman said would you like a ticket? That was an entirely different question. "Excuse me?" I asked. She said I could have the ticket if I wanted it. Too good to be true? I thought so as well. "Are you serious?" .....she was very. I asked her if I could give her any money. She said five or ten dollars if you want. I had exactly $5 on me. That ticket would've been a 65-85 dollar dent in my bank card. A security guard told us that we couldn't do that on the property and had to go outside to do so. Ummm ok Mr. Security man... we went behind the nearest SUV and came right back. You know how hardcore we Gloria Estefan fans are. She was hanging out with a friend who appeared to have been in the same boat, but seated in a different section. When he told her, "What do I do with the extra ticket?" She quickly responded.."Give it to someone. Make someone's day. It'll come back to you." She told me that her boyfriend hadn't showed up. She had bought him tickets for his birthday and he stood her up! BASTARD! But I'm not complaining. I told her well let's just walk in together. I'm not quite sure what she was thinking after her next comment. She asked if I was cool with hanging out with her; and not to worry that she has often hung out with "young boys" before. "I'm just like a mom." She didn't appear to be THAT much older than me....but who knows. As we went inside, I thought, I should at least give her $20. Especially after she had told me that she just lost her job. I stopped at the cash machine but the system was down. I had already planned on buying a t-shirt and programme. So I told her, let me give u 20 dollars. She said...well if you want to, I'll settle for a cd. (15 dollars)..mmmmm Ok. Got my shirt, programme, and cd for her, and we headed to our seats. We had a great time!!! Singing along, dancing, laughing and loving Gloria. We talked about Gloria's music, the set, dancers, etc.... I still couldn't believe my 'luck'. After the show we chatted a bit more, on the way to our cars. mostly about places we wanted to travel to. I thanked her and gave her a great big one...(hug that is. ) We exchanged numbers and swore to keep in touch. I entered a contest to see Gloria in Miami; and told her that if I win, that she and I were gonna be in Miami. Hugged again. and parted ways. I will forever be grateful to her and her kindness. Thank you Janis. God bless you and your search for a job! And if that wasn't enough....I walked into the local cd shop to browse for some more music that I couln't afford! Then I found an impoted cd by Shaznay Lewis ~ "Open" for $4.99. A brand new release. So I took 2. It was the full album. Not a single. The guy at the register (name protected. ) rang me up and told me "That'll be $49. and some odd change. AHEM...excuse me? He looked at the price and couldn't believe the store's pricing mistake. So..he wrote it up and honoured the price marked on the cds. "$10.78 please." I'm not sure what I did to deserve such a 'lucky' evening...but things feel like they are finally turning around for the better. God is good and has His reasons. I'll leave it at that. How was the show? It's GLORIA...hello?!?!?!

Moderator | Very cool Chico! It looks like after all the good positive energy you put into the world, some came back to you. I'm glad for your good fortune. You deserve it! In spite of the cost of living, it's still popular. |

Cool story!
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
