A Gooey Update!

Well, the first four days at my new job are behind me.

Today was especially taxing as I had to visit that Prince Party yesterday (see other thread). Today was hardest because it was not really busy, so I kinda had a huge aftger lunch dip from three to six, hehehe. I had to keep myself boosted with a double espresso...

Let's see; evaluation.

I pick things up easily, as I have worked in stores before. The most taxing is that I work on ALL four floors and they all have different ways of processing things.

The greatest thing about the store is that I know so much already. I have no problem dealing with customers, know lots about the dynamics of a store. My supervisor LOVES that she does not have to tell me lots; I just pick things up easily and wander off on my own.

The coming weeks I will just have to get used to asking loads of questions. Especially our floor with all the esoteric books will be a tuf cookie. It is an oddball department, that floor, with people asking the weirdest questions. The categories on that floor are psychology, business, computerbooks, history, gardening, love and sex, nutrition, health and religion. Imagine all the people from the Politics and Religion AND the Love And Sex forum coming up to you in person and start proclaiming their own ideas and theories. And having to smile to them, hehehe! Customer is King in Holland.

Hehehe. But most customers are patient and understanding. I want a t-shirt that reads NEWBIE, hehehe.

The best things about working in this particular store are firstly the people that work there. All INDIVIDUALS. Most of them social, hehehe.

Second is that I already know the store, having been a customer there for yeaaaars.

And the greatest thing about being close to the source is that in many ways this store is going to make a positive influence on my life. Meeting great new people, colleagues and customers. But they also run a gallery on the side, so I get to go to openings and book readings, can join loads of different book reading clubs (if I want to) or just check out lots of different stuff without having to do much for it; except show up for work!

Hehehe. Did I tell you about the advance copies of books I can get for free? And that we buy huge amounts of cheap books that sometimes contain JEWELS of editions, like Flesh And Blood by Michael Cunningham for mere scraps?

Sigh. And I don't even want to start on the amazing History department that had me drewling as I was browsing through my store.

Hehehe. MY store.

I have found a new home, guys!

Glad you're liking the new job Gooey! The adjustment factor with any new job is always weird but sounds like you're a natural (and at having to listen to people-good practice from the Org I'd bet.)

As for the free books-to show your thanks for our undying love and support some free stuff might be in order.

I watched him at work, he's great! To bad it's such a long way away from where I live, I'd be there in the shop every day if it was my hometown, I just love that store.

You looked realy at home when I visited you at your store saturday, how long does it take before you can give your close personal friends the discount they deserve?

You'll see me more often because you sell Empire almost 2 euros cheaper than other stores.

nod

you know we would be broke after a few months and would be kicked out of our homes
becuz we couldn't pay the bills anymore

but maybe we could rent a small space beneath the bookstore and hang out and jam
with the whole crowd everyday

at night we could sneak into the store and secretly smell the pages of a limited edition
aniversary publishing of Dostoyevski's "Brothers Karamazov"

oh it would be heaven

what am i saying? books and good company + coffee and ciggies = better than heaven
