American 'news' stations are the laughing stock of the world, but very entertaining I must say. Reminds me of all those cop shows. Still, can't blame them for giving people what they like.

thumbs up!

I'm not worried. I removed the emergency 911 buttons from my phone so if there is a medical emergency I can't call for an ambulance.

Better safe than sorry.

re: sensationalism
It's reflected in Nielsen ratings what people watch. Not necessarily what they like to see.
I think it's the human survival instinct subconsciously kicking in. We feel a need to know about all the threats in our environment. Even if we have no control over something, it's an irrational desire. A feeling that we're empowered just by knowing the worst. And it can become addictive.

Well, most wouldn't know the word sensationalism so maybe that's why. You're giving the average American too much credit. It wouldn't be anything conscious, but rather a base titilation. It wouldn't be on TV unless there were demand. American TV is a reflection of many, many things in the country. It's a massive part of the average American's socialisation, sad as that is.

I wonder what the folks down at Faux News will do when Bush loses the election in November.
I guess they'll spend the next four years trying to get President Kerry caught in some manufactured mess ala President Clinton. mad
