Americans are such prudes went it comes to sexuality????

i just don't get it sometimes... its so open everywhere else but here n the US its like its so dirty... it just blows my mind sometimes how we can be about things even here on the org with so many from so many different places.... someone posts somethin and some get offended.... its a diverse community here... why can't someone post somethin here that is innocent w/o makn them feel bad and then have to take it down... i just don't understand why some can't think outside the box and know we are not the superior ones all the time.....

Actually-I've always wondered that myself. We grow up exposed to violence, so we're desensitized to gore, but when a nipple pops out on TV all hell breaks loose.

I have a sneaking suspicion it goes back to the Puritans-England was too wild so they came here to start a cleaner and safer life, with buckles on their heads mind you. I worry sometimes we're heading too far back in that direction-sometimes buttons need to be pushed and I for one, am more bothered by the evening news reports of things actually happening in this country and the world than if someone exposes something that is a little more natural-regardless of whether it was the right time, which it wasn't.

I've heard it's the reverse in Europe, where sexuality is common place but violence is a taboo. I wonder if years of repression in who we are and how we express ourselves has only made the divorces higher, and the therapy bills more common. Who knows?

I love America, I'm proud to live here-but I think it's odd we're taught in general to be ashamed of our bodies (some, like myself, have more open minded parents thankfully) but it's common places to have violence go on.

It's not every American, and depends on where you visit-in the Bible Belt (South, where I'm from) it's more common, but hopefully people will grow more open-minded and learn things for themselves and their own rules instead of being afraid to learn outside their own world.

Just a thought.
