HTML- Dreamweaver. Question?

OKay, i just created a logo for a mock site in Illustrator. Problem is when I go to save da damn document into a da same file as da html page, it savez as a PDF file! So, I exported it and made it JPEG..great..it showz up on da screen..but my fear is, once it comez to saving this file on disk, it's gonna be crap, cause it won't allow me to save da jpeg version in my project's file. Weird hmmm

If anyone knowz what da remedy is..i'd really appreciate it!!

Ta biggrin

Jpegs cant be embedded in HTML as one standalone file, if thats what you are trying to do. Web pages consist of multiple seperate files. Say you had a page called "index.html" that had several jpegs on it. In the folder where the web site was saved, you would see that "index.htm" file along with the several jpeg files, all saved seperately.

The HTML code itself you would have IMG tags that would reference the jpegs to display them on the page.

In Adobe Illustrator, you can export your image in many different formats. For an image you intend to put on a web page, you should export it at 72 dpi (dots per inch) as that the standard resoulution for web graphics. It should also be saved at a compression level like 60% or so to cut down on file size.

If you also intend to use that same image in print or elsewhere, you should also export it at a higher resolution, say 300 dpi, for that purpose, and save it somewhere else.

If you must have only one self-contained file, then an Adobe Acrobat (PDF) file would be the way to go. The file could then be uploaded to your web space, and will display in a web browser (most people already have the acrobat plugin). But this isn't really the preferred method as PDF pages load slow and are awkward to browse. People generally only do this when they want some information to be printer friendly, or easy to save to someones harddrive for later viewing.

Illustrator really isnt designed to make full featured PDF files. The main reason that export option is there, is so they can export their graphics in a vector format that can be opened and edited in a variety of graphics applications.

You shouldn't need to save the .jpeg in the .htm file. You simply call for the image with the correct address. So if you store both the .htm file and the image in the same folder - on a disc, on an external server or on your computer, make sure the address seeks the image in the same folder as the .htm page.
