They are sort of my "heroes" when it comes to musical actresses/dancers.
Cyd Charisse and Leslie Caron Once a well know theater director came to see me perform, and apparently he told my director that I reminded him of Leslie Caron onstage. Of course, I was because I've always loved her. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Yeah, Shirley was/is great as well.
And Rita Moreno.... * * and there's a Prince connection there since she played Mayte's mother in "The One" video. "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

That's not Shirley MacLaine - it's Ann Magnuson (but there is a great resemblance) [This message was edited Fri Aug 20 7:02:50 2004 by Ace] [This message was edited Fri Aug 20 7:03:20 2004 by Ace]

"Ann Magnuson was raised in West Virginia but left her roots behind when she moved to New York in the '70s and became a downtown scenester and multi-talent. She has worked as a performance artist, a writer for national magazines, a singer and lyricist in the cult rock group Bongwater, and as an actor (mostly comedic) on the stage and screen. A regular guest on television sitcoms, a series of her own, Anything but Love, coincided with her work in film. She played lead opposite John Malkovich in Susan Seidelman's Making Mr. Right (1987) and has since had minor roles in bigger films, like A Clear and Present Danger (1994), as well as in some real turkeys, like her role as an Indian goddess in Cabin Boy (1994). She's staged a series of one-woman shows for small theater and continues to record as a rock artist." - Denise Sullivan, All Music Guide

"Phenomenal Woman" Pretty women wonder where my secret lies. I'm not cute or built to suit a fashion model's size But when I start to tell them, They think I'm telling lies. I say, It's in the reach of my arms The span of my hips, The stride of my step, The curl of my lips. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. I walk into a room Just as cool as you please, And to a man, The fellows stand or Fall down on their knees. Then they swarm around me, A hive of honey bees. I say, It's the fire in my eyes, And the flash of my teeth, The swing in my waist, And the joy in my feet. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. Men themselves have wondered What they see in me. They try so much But they can't touch My inner mystery. When I try to show them They say they still can't see. I say, It's in the arch of my back, The sun of my smile, The ride of my breasts, The grace of my style. I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. Now you understand Just why my head's not bowed. I don't shout or jump about Or have to talk real loud. When you see me passing It ought to make you proud. I say, It's in the click of my heels, The bend of my hair, the palm of my hand, The need of my care, 'Cause I'm a woman Phenomenally. Phenomenal woman, That's me. ^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^*^
