DAFFODIL DAY... Daffodil Day is the largest merchandise based national fundraising event of its kind for cancer research, education and patient support in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a day to support those touched by cancer and to focus on hope for a cancer-free future. At the beginning of last century, people with cancer faced almost certain death. Now, thanks to continuing improvement in research and patient care, more than half of them will be successfully treated. This progress is celebrated on Daffodil Day. Created by the Canadian Cancer Society in the early 1980s, Daffodil Day is now run by cancer charities in seven western countries. The event has given the daffodil international significance as an accepted and positive symbol for the heroic efforts made by cancer patients This is for you Mum - 6 years tomorrow [This message was edited Thu Aug 19 16:33:47 2004 by Natisse]

I'm not used to confide myself in here, and I don't feel confortable enough to do it; but I wanted to thank you Natisse for posting this, it's really meaningful to me. My father passed 24 years ago, from cancer as well. He died a few month after my birth and I didn't even have the chance to know him. All I know about him is through pictures and stories I've been told by my family. I wish I could have known him but I realize it would have been even worse if he had died when I was 5 or 7 years old. The worst thing has been for my mother who was the witness of his lingering death during 6 months.
Whenever I see people smoking by my side I don't feel offended but it makes me feel unconfortable, thinking cigarettes are this poison which killed him. Many foundations fighting cancer exist (at least in France, as far as my knowledge goes) like "la ligue" (the league) and A.R.C., but unfortunately they are corrupted. Once again, thank you Natisse for sharing this R.I.P. Is there any place of refuge one can flee from this insanity
