Unpatched PCs compromised in 20 minutes According to this article, a brand new out-of-the-box Wintell machine will get infected once online faster than you can possibly download and install all necessary security patches.
Of course the idea that you need those patches is ridiculous to begin with... This kind of thing pisses me off, and if you would count the prodictivity losses people suffer because one of the biggest company's in the world cannot write some decent code Study: Unpatched PCs compromised in 20 minutes

According to the researchers, an unpatched Windows PC connected to the Internet will last for only about 20 minutes before it's compromised by malware, on average. That figure is down from around 40 minutes, the group's estimate in 2003. http://news.com.com/Study...13402.html Edit: moderators, this was meant for GD, but since it won't get many responses either way, you can do with this thread as u please (on condition u use sufficient lubricant) [This message was edited Thu Aug 19 14:12:38 2004 by SpcMs] "It's better 2 B hated 4 what U R than 2 B loved 4 what U R not."

MS code is decent, but unfortuantely being the largest software manufacturer in the world also mean their OS has to be compatible with a bunch of crap which is also responsible for some vulnerabilities. Not to mention that too many punk ass kids spend time behind their computers trying to find bugs and write virusses/worms to exploit them. | |
